BRAD'S COMMENTS:  I owe thanks to Neale Davidson and Ed McCarthy for this class; Ed for sending me the scans from the original manual, and Neale for creating the wonderful re-draw.  Like most of the First Edition UFP ships, the Laweya was originally rendered in color, using a very artsy "computer interface" theme which does not translate well to the template used for the STSTCSOLD&A; a template based almost entirely on the theme used for the Second Edition manuals.  Between Ed's work and Neale's, things are cleaned up nicely, and I am glad to feature this rare class here at the OLD&A!  Thank you, gentlemen.

Laweya class IX Freighter
NOTES:  The LAWEYA class freighter is a cargo vessel.  It has no provisions for passengers, although it can and has been used as a transport for Federation Marines in emergencies.  It is one of the largest cargo vessels in the Federation.  Although a Starfleet design (Andorian to be exact), the vessel is available commercially.  Few corporations, let alone individuals, can afford to maintain the large ship once they have purchased it.  In commercial use, the vessel is normally found on “milk runs’’ on which it can carry a guaranteed sold cargo in order to at least break even.
