We had terrific weather Monday through Friday of our first week. We took advantage of it to spend a lot of time at the beach at Liz's B&B. The snorkeling was quite good, especially compared to previous trips. I have learned over the years where to look for the best coral reef areas and saw more reef fishes than before. I also had a quick glimpse of an octopuss this trip, which was a first in the ocean off the Anahola beach. Friday night some stormy weather hit the island. Ocean waves came in very strong and much further up the beach. The current increased dramatically and ended any quality snorkeling. We had even gone down to Po'ipu on the south side of the island but the storm had a negative effect on snorkeling there. We did walk along the cliffs at the end of the road and watched the enormous wave action below us on Shipwreck Beach. We went up to the Kilueaua Lighthouse on Monday of the second week, where we had great views and beautiful weather. Here are some views from the Lighthouse of the island just north of it and just to the west of Hanalei Bay. This is an area frequented between December and April by whales that have traveled down from Alaska for the winter. Whale watching during that time of year is one of the island's attractions. Our last day we took a four hour trail ride in Princeville that was highlighted by a hike to a waterfalls.
