What Privacy - Someone stated that it is "illegal" for the Press to publish names and addresses before an individual is convicted. The Potomac News stated the date of the trial in the article. Having our name made public was upsetting to us because we/my girlfriend had been abused, stalked and assaulted in the past, yet here was this newspaper publishing our community, address and names. In one of our few conversations with our neighbors I was told that I was considered a criminal in the community. So much for the Press waiting till after a conviction before publishing names and addresses
Girlfriend was "released on a personal recognize bond". Yes, she was released to hitchhike ten miles home after spending a night in the hospital because she was having a reaction to medication that was provided to address severe anxiety attacks. The morning of January 12, 2005 we had spent the night in the ER and they had given her a prescription to help her address the reactions. We were caught in a cycle, CSB who provided the medication told her to get used to the effects but to go to the Emergency Room if there was a problem. The ER would provide medication for a week, tell her she should get used to the Zoloft and give her something to get through it, when their medication wore out the reactions set in, this was our second go around. The plan was for me to take the day off and address this issue with CSB. My girlfriend may or may not have altered the prescription, to this day she does not remember altering the quantity. The police incarcerated me and released my girlfriend in a mentally/medically impaired state to be picked up by some Good Samaritans who noticed the hospital bracelet and gave her a ride home. Trying to regain some balance over the events she overdosed on the medication that she was having a reaction to. My friend found her in a nearly comatose state. This is how Manassas City Virginia Police "Protect and Serve". What if some "bad person" had got hold of my girlfriend in that state ? What if she had stepped out in front of traffic ? What if my friend had not found her at home in that state ? |

When we appeared in court I had expected that the attorneys I had hired would have reviewed the video, discussed the doctors, CSB medication, state of their clients the morning of the incident and the events that transpired after the event. When our attorneys showed up in court I was told that they did not know that the charges had been separated turning the incident into two separate cases, my attorney vanished to "process" other cases and my girlfriends attorney told her to plead guilty, he then handed me the police report that had "misstatements". My attorney eventually returned claiming that the prosecutor had a deal, I stated that the report was inaccurate, asked if he had reviewed the video that should refute the report. My attorney responded that the evidence would not matter, that I should take the deal and plead guilty, I was getting really concerned - the attorney vanished again. Time came up and the Prosecutor asked me to find my attorney. In front of the judge I bit my tongue, I could not plead guilty, the attorney pled me guilty. I accepted the deal but then the judge went on a rant against this Prosecutor's deal, they wanted me to go to jail for over six months - without hearing the case, without any foundation. This reinforced what my attorney had told me, that the Virginia courts were biased.
The attorney told me that I could apply for "Work Release" when I did so I was told that I was Threat to Society This is the document informing me that I was a "Threat to Society". It also said "Your criminal history shows a history of assaultive or sexually abusive behavior" - criminal history, based upon what history ? This was my first conviction and the other events [1, 2] were a decade in our past (1995) - presumption of guilt, what record ? As I sat in jail, I wanted to see the the CVS store video - evidence to prove me guilty or innocent. But the attorneys I had gone into debt to pay did not respond, Manassas Mayor, Police Chief never responded to the statement of malfeasance by their officers.... |
