I hear the excuse that torture is a necessary evil to keep Americans safe. I hear that police brutality is necessary to catch the "bad guy". I disagree with this philosophy because as a result of the brutality shown me by the Virginia police I question their credibility, an officer that does not know why they are demanding a citizens property or police that are trespassing and cannot answer the owner. Having a home invaded, family, friends killed or tortured, property stolen and being tortured - One would tend to become the enemy of the instigators, one would want to unleash chaos on the enemy.
This is not about one individual being beat up by some cops or being tortured, this is about what happens afterwords. Was the end justified, was the goal reached ? Was a major event stopped by this strategy ? Was a "criminal" caught by beating them up ? Did the "criminal" really resist - the excuse used by the Manassas Cops that beat me up in the CVS store ?
In the past torture was allegedly illegal, if it was necessary to commit the act of torture then the results would prove out - those above the torturer can stand up for the action and the torturer could be pardoned, the case dismissed as a necessary evil. These "leaders" would stand on their beliefs in the light of day and many people would have been saved from a bad event. Of course the price for this action would be if one was wrong and the wrong subject was tortured, the torturer would be punished. This would mean that they would THINK before they acted and the leaders would get a blemish for not showing good judgment in hiring this individual. In Clint Eastwood movies, he was never wrong, this is not real life but it did provide drama and create an illusion of competence.
With the Bush philosophy they are hiring thugs, individuals with a predisposition towards abuse and then they are removing the leashes. The thugs go out and round up whoever they feel claiming that they are people of interest. There is no focus to this activity, note that we still do not have the major "person of interest", Osama Bin Laden an individual that has become a symbol of a successful strategy against us - why ? Something was not effective.
The Manassas Virginia police that beat me up, accomplished what ? I still know what happened, I do know that the CVS store has video cameras throughout and I do know that this evidence was dismissed, lost and my concerns ignored.
How many others were assaulted by these thugs and they did not have the video cameras available ? Why are the Virginia authorities covering up such incidents ? Why did the Virginia State Bar an alleged agency of the State Supreme Court adopt a policy of dismissal, failing to ensure that the client obtains competent legal counsel ? The Bar still does not know the "strategy" adopted by its members. Maybe, the attorney, the member of the Bar decided that the client is not one of choice so their strategy was to take their money and "processes" them, why spend the time looking at dry evidence, video and documents when, knowing the industry they know that the client cannot afford to fight the "malpractice" battle so just plead them guilty and out.
How many others were "presumed guilty" by the attorneys they hired ? In Virginia the Bar does not know, else why would its members give such a high recommendation to the attorney that deserted.
If there were consequences to their actions I am sure that those executing the warrants would demonstrate diligence by researching a case before breaking down the door of a Mayors home, the door of a wrong house, assaulting children, framing someone in a CVS store or committing other abuses. Dogs provide great security but they need to know who their masters are - it is apparent that these dogs do not know their masters, they commit atrocities without consequence. These acts are then covered up, dismissed and the truth is silenced with avoidance and lies.
This is not about one incident, this is about who or what we are, how the "adults" handle it. Bullying, deception and ad hominem attacks are not the actions of adults, they are the actions of individuals lacking control, discipline, these are the actions of cowards. My/our experiences say more about the society that we live in than it says about my failings. The really funny thing is that this is social suicide, to allow these actions to continue does more damage to this country than any terrorist or even war could ever have done - a social system loses social support.
