Dirty Harry vs. the modern Barney Fife

Barney Fife has information technology in his car yet still cannot identify a resident...
Barney Fife Harry Callahan

Harry Callahan did not make mistakes, he was also fictional.
The difference between Harry Callahan and Barney Fife was that Harry faced the consequences of his actions. Harry used excessive force with focus, direction, intel and got results, he then justified his actions. For such activities they have Executive Pardon's if in fact the officer did capture a serial killer or stopped a bomb from going off - saving the community.

The modern Barney Fife is trying to get the policies of "Dirty Harry" to become standard policies, wrapping themselves in the blue skirt of authority they would be able to "do whatever they believe it takes to get the job done". The operative words are "they believe" leaving the activity open to interpretation of a Barney Fife on the streets. If one followed Barney in the The Andy Griffith Show his interpretations of situations was lacking, often causing more problems than solving. Barney wants more power but with the power that he now wields he avoids accountability for his actions, the excuse for these mistakes is that he is human.

How many electronic information devices does Barney have in his car ?
We see examples of Barney Fife in such news articles as Cop who arrested black scholar is profiling expert and Report clears deputies in raid on mayor's home. How many electronic information devices does Barney's car have in it, radios, computers and cell phones. According to propaganda the state government has our pictures and addresses in their databases, so what was the excuse for Barney to arrest the Harvard Professor in his home or a team to smash down a Mayor's door, threaten his family and kill his pets.

Barney wanted to force a Harvard Professor to give up his id, Barney had power and Barney was good at profiling.... or .... these experienced officers went into the theater without a clue, did not use that new fangled technology and did not know who lived at the residence.

They say that Barney was doing their job, that he is human and imply that these professionals are easily confused with the "fog of war", they want these individuals to have more freedom of interpretation. Those wishing for "Dirty Harry" policies want a police state, it is profitable for them to have such an environment. Everyone should note that when Barney got out of his leash chaos ruled the community.

We need "Harry Callahan", more importantly we need to make sure he is on our side, that he is accountable for his actions....
I am all for professionals that know and study their target before they strike, then when they do strike it is with focus and precision. The target of such tactics should be social predators and gangs that are terrorizing the communities. The problem is that those who are predators usually have responses that make them appear innocent and the cops do not use the technology or lack the skill to be able to tell the difference, predators plan, the police do not. Gangs are profitable for both sides of the fence, having a "pocket cop" makes them more successful - why else are these gangs still around and thriving? Theoretically the citizens own the community and the police are supposed to be the citizens "gang" who knows and studies the theater of their assigned territory.

Instead of a competent Harry Callahan we have Barney Fife avoiding responsibility for their activities behind a blue skirt, beating up on elderly Harvard Professors, a Mayor and a couple returning from spending the night in the hospital. Barney is too scared to go after the gangs or predators, hiding behind a blue skirt as they beat up on citizens, poor Barney really needs Sheriff Taylor back, needs functional oversight.....
