My late father was an old style attorney who before he passed away lamented the failings of his profession, that the "truth" and "facts" no longer mattered in the courtroom, that the arena had turned into a circus - I wish he could have seen us through some of this (my personal relationship edge) but he passed some time ago. Watching Law and Order the other night Jack McCoy was on his soapbox, claiming that the courts represented "truth" and "law", I choked back a laugh if people believe this now they are disillusioned because this is a lie, another TV fantasy. Here is our history, it is necessary to establish how our experiences with the institutions have "failed" us. I am an only child, I have always been a loner, brought up in a rural environment I was treated as an adult providing I behaved as an adult so I expect the same from others. I also have a hearing disability that may have facilitated my being a loner. As a youth I shot competition rifles with the NRA and competed in numerous horse shows. I joined the Marine Corps when I was seventeen and found it restricting.
I disagreed with my father on his treatment of others, in a restraunt he would be the one that would "snap" his fingers for a waiter, stop in the middle of the road to "figure" out where he was going or his comments about those "other" people - an arrogance. This identified my falling out with him as he treated my mother with this same attitude. My father would pre-judge those around him, then if he did not like them he would mess with them. What I find interesting is that if one goes to the courts one sees this same type of arrogance in the halls, going to court is like stepping back in time to my father's era, the tools are advancing, providing more and more control over others yet the people implementing the processes that are supposed to represent us are behaving in the same manner, bringing their biases to the institution. The ironic thing is that by their actions against others, in sueing others for their failures they are forcing society to evolve, to out grow this behavior as they sit in their niche protected by their "good old boy" network or cronyism.
