Sumpter Dredge

We left our campsite at 8 am and headed east on US-26. I decided to head north to Baker City via OR-7. This way we could make a stop at Sumpter Oregon.

At Sumpter we stopped the Sumpter Dredge State Park. The Dredge use to work the Sumpter Valley pulling gold out of the river bottom. It is an actual Dredge that has been preserved. The narrow gauge Steam RR Sumpter Valley also stops here. We did not get to see the train do to our schedule. After touring the Dredge we continued on.

After Baker City we hopped on I-84 for our eastward journey passing through Boise. We hit a major thunder storm passing through Twin Falls with very high crosswinds. We arrived at Pocatello 6 PM MDT. I often travel to Pocatello on business so I showed the family around this small town. We then ate at one of my more favorite restaurants, Wingers. then we stayed the night at a KOA.

Continue to Day 3: Pocatello to Yellowstone via Jackson and Grand Tetons.
