Mining Demo
|
It was time to head
west again from Missoula. We stopped for lunch in Wallace, Idaho. This
town is famous it is many Silver mines. It was also the site of the
last traffic light on the Interstate highway system. With the price of
silver being low, the town survives on tourism.

Mine Entrance |
We decided to take a mine tour. It was one of the better
guide led tours I ever took! Real retired miners took us into a closed
mine and did demonstrations with the different mining equipment.
After the tour Mark visited the depot museum in this town.
At one time the town was served by two railroads. Now the last tracks
under the freeway are being ripped up and turned into a bike trail.

Depot Museum |
After this tour we headed to Coeur D'Alene Idaho and
stopped at Silverwood Theme Park. The only real theme park in the
Pacific NW. It has 3 roller coasters, 2 wooden and one steel. Skip the
steel, the 2 wooden ones are great!. There is also a steam train that
runs around the park.

Silverwood |
We ended the day at a former KOA campground, that wasn't
much to write home about...
