Family Trip
2003 to Japan
DAY 1: Leave Home
|
It was Sunday morning
at 6:00am when we woke up. Got showered and packed the last minute
items into our 3 carryon roller bags, two backpacks and one small
tote bag.

| Amtrak going through Salem |
At 6:45am, Mark took
Flame for a walk. He tries to do this before any trip. It makes Flame
very happy and distracted prior to us leaving so she doesn't get mad.
The walk took them to the new promenade along the railroad tracks on
12th St in downtown Salem. At 7:00am the Amtrak Cascades Seattle bound
train went through on time!
We left our home at
7:15am, arriving at the economy lot at Portland Airport (PDX) at
8:15am. We took the short shuttle bus ride to airport. We were checked
in and through security by 8:40am. We then relaxed in the Alaska
Airlines Board Room lounge to wait for our 10am Horizon shuttle flight
to Seattle.

| Horizon
Dash-8-400 |
We boarded our plane, a
Bombardier Dash-8-400. We were held in Portland for 30 minutes due to
traffic delays at Seattle. At Seattle we took the small shuttle bus
from the Horizon gates to the South Satellite where Northwest Airlines
is. We had a quick bite to eat at Burger King. We then relaxed in the NW Worldclubs
lounge for about an hour before they called our flight to Tokyo.

| Northwest
Boeing 747-200 |
Once we boarded our
B747-200 we sat in the business class section. Richard and Cynthia
never saw the upper deck before so we sneaked a peak up the spiral
stairs before settling into our seats downstairs.
Richard was amazed at
the "free" stuff they give you in Business class. A small
bag filled with toothpaste, blind folds and ear plugs, then slippers
or socks. He was also impressed with how far the seats reclined and
the amount of legroom.
We then settled in had
a great dinner and watched some movies for our 9 hour flight to Tokyo
