The final product

 

It is exciting to have the car back together again. It is a blast to drive, the torque filled KA is always ready to lurch the car forward. These engine are notorious for lack of top-end power, so I plan on experimenting with cams and a programmable EMS in the future, but for now I plan on just driving and enjoying this creation.

UPDATE: I finally found some time to strap the car down on the 'dingo. I did several pulls, here are the results:

Green Line: Orignial Engine (L20B Weber DGV) (67 HP Max)
LIght Blue Line: KA24DE with silencer in the muffler, static ignition timing set at 18 degrees (143 HP Max)
Red Line: KA24DE with silencer REMOVED from the muffler, same ignition timing (148 HP Max)
Dark Blue Line: KA24DE without silencer and static timing set at 22 degrees (151 HP Max)

 



Here is a picture of the removable silencer I made that fits in the muffler. It restricts the exhaust flow to a 1-3/4" tube.

Each combination was dynoed twice to make sure the runs were consistent. The results show that this engine loves free flowing exhausts. Corking it up a little with the silencer does not help anywhere in the power band.Torque takes a nose dive starting at 5,000 RPM. Hopefully some cams/cam timing will solve that problem.
