Screen

I had bought the cabinet without a monitor.  I really didn't want some "burned in" old monitor anyway. I needed  a 25" TV with a S-video connection on the back.  I really didn't want to remove the picture tube from the plastic case and then try to mount the thing in the cabinet.  This meant I would need to also find a TV that was 25" wide or less. I could only find 2 sets that met all three requirements.  One was the RCA 25645 but it couldn't be bought at the local "Best Circuit" store or any ma & pa appliance store in the local area. Sure you could order it from RCA themselves if you wanted to pay top dollar plus delivery, tax and destination charges.  The other TV was a Konka (What a name. Would it Konka outa at some point?) I happened to be at one of those darn super sale things at the Michigan State Fairgrounds and I found the RCA25645 I was looking for.  It cost $212.00. A rebuilt unit, but I didn't mind.  It sure beat waiting for some TV to come over on a slow boat from China.

Mounting the TV in the cabinet

I really wanted to "keep it simple stupid" so after some careful measurements with the bezel held up to the front of the TV (perfect fit!) I was able to figure out where to mount the TV shelf. Two slabs of wood and 4 of those sheet metal shelf brackets and the shelf was in. I drilled a small hole in the bezel so the infra-red from the remote could get to the TV. After setting the TV on the shelf I screwed it down with 4 small angle brackets.  Done. Hassle free.
