Climate
As stated earlier, weather is a condition of the atmosphere at a given time and place. CLIMATE is the average weather in an area over a long period of time. The monthly and seasonal temperatures over a period of years is studied to determine the climate of a specific region.
Climate is categorized into five systems:
POLAR: warmest month averages about 50 degrees F. There is only light precipitation and permanent snow or ice.
HUMID and COLD: hot summers, coldest month averages below 27 degrees F. The average rainfall is less than 20 inches a year.
WARM and RAINY: coldest month averages between 27 and 64 degrees F. Average rainfall is between 20-40 inches a year.
TROPICAL RAIN: coldest month averages 64 degrees F. The average rainfall is between 72 and 180 inches of rain, with 6-15 inches a month during the rainy season.
DRY: average rainfall is less than 20 inches a year.
