Willy de la Garde Noir
Whelped in France March 14, 1948 by Samy du Mordant
x Ura Du Chemin Des Dames
Willy was born and
lived in France, the son of the mating of two Groenendaels. Described as a
pale fawn, Willy was recognized for his excellent type and valued as an
important stud dog in the revival of the Tervuren variety after the World
Wars. Willy's name is found in virtually all Tervuren pedigrees tracing back
to Tervuren lines of the 1940's. |

Whelped in Belgium July 30, 1950 by Ubro of the Country House x Xivlette. Breeder:
J. Delpauch
Pictured here May 29, 1953 handled by
importer/owner Rudy Robinson, receiving an award from judge Alva Rosenberg,
one of two judges at the time who knew the breed. Zulvo was sent by Mr.
Verbanck of Belgium to Rudy along with his sister Zamorane to replace two
earlier export puppies that had died.
Zulvo was used extensively by American breeders in an effort to improve
type. He produced litters bearing the kennel names of Quilhot's, Geier Tal,
Candide (including Lawry Candide, another popular sire), Bingen, Arbor Vista
and Toison Noire. |

Pictured here in 1953, "Julie" was a litter
sister to Zulvo, purchased by the Krohns from importer Rudy Robinson. As so
many of us do, the Krohns enjoyed training their Belgians, and Bob went on
to become an AKC licensed obedience judge. Julie was bred three times,
producing puppies for the Krohns under the De La Nuit name. |

Cheri du Clos Saint Jacques CD

Cheri (a male) was whelped in France April 8,
1953Asko De Bois De L'Arsot x Avocette Du Clos Saint Jacques. Breeder: Mme
Muller. He was imported by Rudy Robinson at the same time as Rudy imported
Chrysis and Crigga, littermates of another breeding..
Rudy did much to promote the Belgians,
regularly having professional photos taken such as the one shown, and
advertising in highly visible publications. |

Chrysis du Clos St. Jacques
Whelped in France May 20, 1953, by Ami Du
Clos St. Clair x Walhalla De Sang-Bleu. Breeder: Mme Muller
Chrysis was imported by Rudy Robinson for
the Krohns, who now turned their efforts to promoting and breeding the
Belgian Tervuren. Her sister Crigga went to Marge Coyle. This picture was taken just after Chrysis arrived in New
Mexico from Chicago by railroad, traveling in a basket. Along with Chrysis, the Tervurens
Cheri and D'Jimmy began making their appearance in the show ring, which had
been domain of the black Groenendael for many years. |

Chrysis du Clos St. Jacques,
CD.
This photo was taken in 1955. Chrysis was
the first Tervuren in the U.S. to obtain a CD title. Chrysis was
bred to import (Holland) Brigadier de La Brigade (C-BAR) to produce
Imp Rouge De Fauve Charbonne, and to Ch. D'Jimmy du Clos Saint Clair to
produce Fidelite, Fillette, and Flair De Fauve Charbonne. These offspring
became foundation stock for Val de Tonnerre, De Lafayette, and Chateau
Blanc, respectively.
Her daughter, Fillette, bred to Dandy du
Clos St. Jacques, produced Canadian Ch. Nightwatch Russet Chevalier UDTX,
who did much to promote the Tervuren in the Pacific Northwest. "Val" was the
first dog of any breed to obtain the Canadian Tracking Dog Excellent title,
some years before the AKC established the same title. He was owned by Don and
Mollie Hudson, who wrote a dog training manual, and shared many delightful
stories and home movies of this accomplished dog. |

Dalou was bred to Ch. Dandy du Clos Saint
Jacques to produce multi-Working Group placing Ch. Jory Candide, born May
21, 1956. "Jory", owned by Opal McGee and handled by Collie breeder Vivianne
"Rickie" Richards, who did much to publicize the Tervuren in the breed ring.
Rickie's daughter Terri Harville (Florida) remains active in Tervuren today. |

Del Pirata Nero (Italy). Breeder: Colombo, importer Rudy Robinson

Turnquist of Oklahoma. Marge started out in GSDs and switched to Belgian
Sheepdogs, acquiring her early stock from Rudy Robinson. "Liza" was bred to
Zulvo to produce the "L" litter of Geier Tal, and bred to her son Lochinvar
of Geier Tal to produce the "M" litter of Geier Tal. One of her
Zulvo daughters, "Lisa" went to Rudy who bred her to Dandy Candide
(Groenendael) for a litter of 6 males, 3 females. Of those offspring
Alardo Candide went to Sheila Rentschler's Ganymede kennel, Eros Candide
produced Aurelie du Val de Tonnerre, and Lucifer Candide is found in the
pedigrees of many of the Texas Groenendaels, behind Witch Doctor. |

Ch. Dandy du Clos Saint

Whelped in France Dec. 25, 1954 by
Chip du Clos St. Jacques x Braise du Clos St. Jacques. Breeder: Madam Muller
Imported by Rudy Robinson along with his
sister Dolly, Dandy was the most influential early Tervuren stud in the
United States. Before the AKC split into breeds, The Glovers in Oregon bred
him to the Zulvo Groenendael daughter, Cuti Candide, and to a resulting
Groenendael daughter, Nightwatch Charm, to produce offspring found in many
American Tervuren pedigrees today. Dandy was also bred to the Tervurens
Dalou du Clos Saint Clair (sister to D'Jimmy); Fillette De Fauve Charbonne (D'Jimmy
x Chrysis); Ch. Jasmine de Cledeville; Kiki de Fauve Charbonne, and to his
Tervuren daughters Nightwatch Tawny Theresa (our of Charm) and Nightwatch
Russet Rondo (our of Fillette). |

Loyal was whelped in France Sept. 2,
1962 by Gin du Clos St. Jacques x Joelle du Clos St. Jacques, and imported
by the Krohns from his breeder Madam Muller.
Ch. Jasmine de Cledeville was whelped in
France April 12, 1960 by Eros de Cledeville x Berengere de Cledeville, and
imported by the Krohns from her breeder Madam LeMoro.
Jasmine was very influential in establishing
or significantly contributing to many Tervuren kennels in the United States,
including Chateau Blanc, Bonheur, Georjune, Braise Rouge, Des Rogues Rouges,
and Bon Chateau. She was bred to Dandy du Clos St. Jacques, Loyal du Clos
St. Jacques, Imp Rouge de Fauve Charbonne, D'Artagnone de Falaise, and
Daktary de Chateau Blanc. Her litter from Dandy produced 5 Champions, most
of which established new kennels in the U.S. |

Friendship was whelped June 16, 1963 by Ch. Gironde De Lafayette x Ch.
Kriquette de Fauve Charbonne CD, and Lagardaire was whelped Nov. 24, 1963 by
Haric De L'Assa x Jaspe Regio Semine.
Lawry was an influential producer, sire of
at least 7 litters, including puppies bearing the Solarmarc, De Gama, Bingen
and Cest Si Bon names. Friendship, from Faye Dickens' first litter and
littermate to Karen Johnson's Tishaminga De Weeping Pines, was bred to his
dam Kriquette to produce Aries Jet De Bonheur and Astral Ember de Bonheur,
Marcie Schubert and Kay Maves' first Tervurens, respectively. Lagardaire was
imported by Antonia (Toni) Diamond, and sired at least 3 litters for
her Diadam kennel, one of the earliest
Malinois kennels here after the "split". Two of the bitches he was bred to
were Nini's Lady Love De L'Assa and to La Desiree Diadem
Regio Semine. |

Daktary was whelped Oct. 14, 1966 by
Ch. Ami De Chateau Blanc x Ouka De Val D'Orge (import)
Daktary's sire Ami was the first homebred
Champion for Edeltraud Laurin, by Flair de Fauve Charbonne x Kandice de
Fauve Charbonne. By this time, there were several new breeders around the
country. Daktary was used on a number of bitches, bearing the familiar pedigrees seen above. |

Vanguard De Braise Rouge, CD

Whelped May 8, 1972, by Onondaga De
Braise Ardente CD x Onekaya De Braise Ardente. Breeder: Allen
Vanguard was owned and handled by Merrelyn
Clark. His sire and dam were littermates, out of Kenny De Cledeville x Aimee
du Bon Chateau (a daughter of Dandy x Kiki De Fauve Charbonne). Vanguard's litters thus
established Merrelyn's "Carefree" Tervuren in 1978. |
