I hope I can help you
with your search or questions. I am a "Bonified Newbie" to this but I have
learned a lot in a short time, and also know that the more I learn, the more I know I
don't know. What I do know is that you have to know where to go on the Internet, and
this is why there are so many links to great sites here. If your searching and
prowling, you find a site you feel would be great listed here, by all means, let me know. Let's all help each
other.
It is important that
you understand that I am not a professional genealogist, or even
pretend to be. With that understood, there are something's that are very basic
before you start your genealogy search.
# 1. Talk
to family members. Compile as much family history as you can, including stories,
lore and photo's. Acquire names, places, dates, and if possible - documents!
Check with other family members, maybe someone else in the family has started and can
share information with you. Then, go back and ask again. You may
have help them remember something or someone.
#
2. Find a user friendly program to use. There are several
good ones available and can be easily accessed on the Internet. Ask your friends or
other family members for one they may recommend, they will be valuable sources for help
with the program if you have questions later.
#3.
Find, visit and if possible, join your local Genealogical Society. They do
excellent work, are a great source of information and offer valuable help.
Also, check out your local LDS - Latter-day Saints (Mormon) Church. Their family history
centers are a plethora of information and they have experts there to help you. They
will order film, documents and records that you can use for a nominal fee, as well as
providing expert advice.
With this all said and
done, here is a small list of, what I believe, valuable web sites! I hope they help!
