MY SHELBY COBRA PROJECT
CAR SHOWS
On July 27, 2002 I entered my first car show. The cobra took FIRST place in its class at the 22nd annual Highway Stars Car Show in Cinnaminson, NJ. What an unexpected surprise to actually win a trophy. Now I am looking forward to entering another show soon. Below are several photos of the event.
Sunday August 18, 2002 marked the second car show entry, the 11th Annual Pennsauken Township Car Show. Again the car was awarded first place in its class.
Saturday, August 24, 2002 was the third car show, the 6th Annual Riverview Antique, Classic ,Street Rod and Bike Show in Riverside, NJ. This one was the best thus far, receiving the Mayor's Choice Award, second only to the Best Of Show Award.
My fourth car show was the Collingswood Fall 2002 Car Show on Saturday, September 14, 2002 sponsored by the C.A.R. Club of New Jersey. I received one of three Awards of Excellence in my Class.
The first car show of 2003 was the Palmyra Festival and Police Safety Day Car Show in Palmyra, NJ on Saturday June 7. My cobra took third place in its class amidst some heavy competition.
The second car show of 2003 was the 23rd annual Highway Stars car Show in Cinnaminson, NJ on Sunday August 17. My cobra took third place in its class amidst stiff competition. There were some really nice cars in my class this year including an absolutely cherry 1966 Shelby GT-350.
The third show in 2003 was the 7th Annual Riverview Antique, Classic & Street Rod Show in Riverside, NJ on Saturday August 23. It was a perfect day and at least 150 cars showed up. The Cobra walked away with a gorgeous trophy.
I only entered one car show in 2004, the 8th Annual Riverdel Car Show in Riverside, NJ on August 28. There were 200 cars entered. For the second time on three entry years the Cobra was awarded a special trophy, the People's Choice Cup.
The first car show of 2005 was the 2005 Memorial Weekend Memories Car Show in Cherry Hill, NJ The Cobra took third place in class. There were more than 32 cars in the show.
In 2006 I decided to do only one car show, the 10th Annual Riverview Car Show on Saturday August 19. I didn't do this show last year because of inclement weather. This year, because I had added the meatballs and vintage racing decals the judges classified the Cobra as "modified" rather than "stock". This year there were close to 300 cars entered. The Cobra again took home the People's Choice cup.
2007 was a major bust for car show participation. I just didn't have the time. I had intended to enter the Riverview Show but couldn't because of my daughter's engagement party. Oh well.
In 2008 I entered the 12th annual Riverview Car Show. This year I was back in the Stock Class because I had removed the static cling meatballs. Obviously, inflation and the poor economy has taken its toll. Although I am proud to have won another trophy, the awards were of significantly lower quality than in previous shows as well as the entry fee increased. It was still a great show, though, drawing approximately 230 cars in Stock and Modified categories completely filling the entire downtown area of Riverside. Overall, the show consumed nearly 7 hours of time. I'm tired so I think this will be my last show.
