Susan's Philosophy

Food choices today are complicated; efforts by large food companies to sell nutrition confuse the public. Registered dietitians are food experts. We can help people navigate the "low carb", "no trans fat", "contains plant sterols" labels and determine whether any of these claims are even relevant to a client's particular situation. We are familiar with the foods that aggravate common, yet frustrating conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome or gastro-esophageal reflux.

I have a strong science background and believe in evidence based practice. I utilize national standards for dietary recommendations from the National Institutes for Health, American Diabetes Association, and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institutes for example. I am also open to alternative therapies; I believe that some herbal products or other supplements can help some people but I am very careful about how I recommend these substances.

Changing eating habits is not easy. A registered dietitian who takes the time to get to know clients can help facilitate changes that result in clients who feel better. This is what gives meaning to my work. I can provide the tools to help people make changes they can live with and thus lead healthier and more productive lives. I take pride in helping my clients be successful.
