Third Generation23. Israel Burket (Bordert) was born on 29 July 1791 in of Berlin, Somerset, Pennsylvania.100 He was christened on 14 August 1791 in German Reformed Church, Berlin, Bedford, Pennsylvania.101 He appeared in the census in 1810 in Stoneycreek Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania.102 Indexed as Israel Bushet. Was only 19 and married on this census. I looked at the original and Israel is newly married with no kids and he and wife are age 16-24. This fits perfectly! Page 428 or 448 depending on which page you use!! Israel was taxed in 1814 in Stony Creek Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania Burkert, Israel Jr. 350 acres, none cleared. Farmer. no horses, no cows, no houses. He is 23 and married. Christopher his father is also in the township with no acres, one horse, one cow, no house. The estate of Israel the immigrant is listed: Burkert, Israel Estate. 250 acres 20 cleared. These are the only Burkets in the township for this assessment. He appeared in the census in 1820 in Stoneycreek Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania.103 One son under 10 (Israel), and Israel is 26-45, wife 45-plus. Agriculture. Living next door to Peter Lambert. Israel is old enough to have more children than this...must have had a difficult time having children. Son Israel is only 4 at the time. Family info shows up on church records, and Israel is only son on the church records (that have survived, anyway). Ludwig Copp is just a few houses up. Page 138 Wait! Wife over 45? he is only 29!!! I am thinking this is not a wife. His wife must have died, that is why only one kid, Israel. Wife died. So 1810 he and wife are 16-25 and newly married. Israel is only 19. Then by 1820 he is 29 so wife should also be 26-35. Who is she? Mother? Mother in Law? No, cause Mary Ann Ross Burket is with her own family on the 1820. He was taxed in 1821 in Stoneycreek Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania104 1 horse, 1 house, three acres cleared, occupation is illegible. Looks like: Blanter or Branter. Coult be an R. Probably and R. Following tax year lists him as Renter. I guess it could be renter. Hardly an occupation. I should check the original on the 1823. Someone could have got it wrong on US GENWEB. Cause with 300 acres of property that you are being taxed on....hum. I think they are taking one of the columns and assuming it meant they were renting the property. Israel moved in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania between 1821 and 1822 Perhaps this move has something to do with the death of his wife? He was taxed in 1822 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania105 One cabin He was taxed in 1823 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania; one cow, renting Israel was taxed in 1826 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania He was taxed in 1827 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania He was taxed in 1829 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania Israel appeared in the census in 1830 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania.106 Spelled Burget on Census. Chris is on page 112 and Israel is on page 113 . There is a John also on page 113. There is a Michare (probably michael) on page 112. There is a Christian junior on page 113 (brother). All spelled Burget!
He was taxed in 1830 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania Farmer. Christopher is also there. 10 acres 3 cleared one cow one house He was taxed in 1831 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania 10 acres 3 cleared one cow one cabin. I have original
I have tried an entire U.S. Search for him.. did I try the 1840? Bordert is the spelling of the family name on the Berlin Church Records in Berlin, Somerset, Pennsylvania where Israel is Christened. From an email received 20 October 2003 I have an original marriage certificate written out by Thomas Gahagen," one of the justices of the peace for Somerset Co." It is dated 20th of Sept. 1817 and unites in marriage Lewis Hull and Mary Mitchel. One of the witnesses was Israel Burket. I saw his name and Thomas Gahagen's name listed on your website. I found this fragile document in my mother's things after she died along with old letters from Speichers and Carvers, my mother's ancesters. They were probably given to her by her cousin Rae Landis (nee Lowry), also deceased from Berlin. My mother's name was Mary Brant Hopkins. My grandmother and Rae Landis' mother were sisters (nee Speicher). As far as I know, all the Speichers lived in Stonycreek Township. I don't know if these people are ancesters of mine or not, but I did read on your website that Shade Township was a part of Stoneycreek Township before 1816. Would you be able to give me more information about these people. Thank you, Thomas Marshall Hopkins PO Box 427 Mc Elhattan, PA 17748 (570) 769-6117 tmhopkins@suscom. net Did this Israel have a son noah? Burket Noah shoemaker St. Clairsville 49 (page 49 of 1879 Bedford County Directory... East St. Clair) probably not BUT, could be related. Christopher was, after all, a shoemaker!!! Noah is the only burket in East St. Clair. wait. He had a GRANDSON Noah!! Where was this noah in 1880? Check it out. Israel Burket (Bordert) and Catherine were married about 1809 in of Somerset, Somerset, Pennsylvania. On the 1810 census they are listed as having no children. This is the only possible Israel Burket for this time frame and this particular place. First known child is born 1816. His birth is recorded in the Stoyestown church records. Interesting that no other children are mentioned in this record. Are there missing years for this church record? Look and see. Catherine was born about 1790.107 She died between 1816 and 1820 in of Stoneycreek Township, Somerset , Pennsylvania. Her first name comes from Stoyestown Lutheran Church Records for the birth of their son Israel in 1816 (childs name is not in the records, but date matches death record for Israel Burket who married Mary).
