(Bordert) was born on 29 Jul 1791 of Berlin, Somerset, Pennsylvania.77 He was christened on 14 Aug 1791
in Berlin, Bedford, Pennsylvania.78
He appeared in the census in 1810 in Stoneycreek Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania.79 Was only 19 and married on this
census. I looked at the original and Israel is newly married with no kids and
he and wife are age 16-24. This fits perfectly! Page 428 He appeared in the
census in 1820 in Stoneycreek Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania.80 One son under 10 (Israel), and Israel is 26-45, wife
45-plus. Agriculture. Living next door to Peter Lambert. Israel is old enough
to have more children than this...must have married late. Son Israel is only
4 at the time. Family info shows up on church records, and Israel is only son
on church records that have survived, anyway. Ludwig Copp is just a few houses
up.

200 acres, one cow, one house, valued at 128 taxed 44. He has a son who is
married with children and living in Stoneycreek. But this tax info is for him
cause he was in Shade. He is also taxed with about the same info in 1846. He
was taxed in 1846 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania82 200 Acres and valued at 150 dollars. He was taxed
in 1847 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania 200 acres. Listed
as tenant on Daniel Sarber property. his value is 300. NEW as of July
2003: The Daniel Sorber Farm is still there in Shade Township--not far from
where our family farm was. I will be visiting this farm. It is interesting
that this Israel is living on the Daniel Sorber Property in 1847. He should
be on the 1850 census somewhere!!'' Interesting: Michael is in Shade 1850 next
door to a Daniel Sorber age 39.
There is a 73 year old Daniel Sorber and wife Elisabeth age 65 on the Shade 1850
census page 116 and he is a farmer worth 10,000 dollars living next to 55 year
old John Lambert who looks to be a widower. Bordert is the spelling of the family
name on the Berlin Church Records in Berlin, Somerset, Pennsylvania where Israel
is Christened.

I have an original marriage certificate written out by Thomas Gahagen,"
one of the justices of the peace for Somerset Co." It is dated 20th of
Sept. 1817 and unites in marriage Lewis Hull and Mary Mitchel. One of the witnesses
was Israel Burket. I saw his name and Thomas Gahagen's name listed on your website.
I found this fragile document in my mother's things after she died along with
old letters from Speichers and Carvers, my mother's ancesters. They were probably
given to her by her cousin Rae Landis (nee Lowry), also deceased from Berlin.
My mother's name was Mary Brant Hopkins. My grandmother and Rae Landis' mother
were sisters (nee Speicher). As far as I know, all the Speichers lived in
Stonycreek Township. I don't know if these people are ancesters of mine or not,
but I did read on your website that Shade Township was a part of Stoneycreek
Township before 1816. Would you be able to give me more information about these
people. Thank you, Thomas Marshall Hopkins PO Box 427 Mc Elhattan, PA 17748
