Fourth Generation60.
16 July is from IGI and source is 6142807 Same source says father is Isaac and mother is Sarah Just found him on the 1900 census in Blair County, Greenfield Township. He is 69 and says he was born in January 1831. This matches the information on his headstone in the Upper Claar Cemetery which says he was born in 1831 and died in 1914. Will look on 1910. Found. added. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Union Township, Bedford, Pennsylvania. born 1826. Is this him? why in Union? Why with a Margaret? First wife? Sister? Could very likely be a sister because no children. check to see if it fits in family. Does fit. There is a gap between 1818 Henry and 1823 Abraham. Not sure where I got age for Henry, however. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Greenfield Township, Blair, Pennsylvania.63 Spelled Burget on Census. Age 31 in 1860. Woodchopper. Valued at 200 dollars. Page 246. Son Austin is 2 years old and brother Martin is 5 years old. Abraham served in the military Lieutenant between 1861 and 1865 in Greenfield Township, Bedford, Pennsylvania. 3 years 11 months and 27 days served. 20 August 1861 to 13 August 1865. Is it possible this record is for this particular Abraham in Greenfield? I think so. He was the right age, and I don't think there was another in Greenfiled on the 1860 or 1870. Company G Calvary new as of May 2007. This makes sense. He is an Invalid on the later census. He was taxed in 1866 in Greenfield Township, Blair, Pennsylvania Second Class Peddler on Federal Tax Lists in Greenfield Township, Sarah Post Office. Same area in Greenfield as on the 1860 census where Austin is 2 years old. Another Federal list for the same year lists him as a second class peddler but also as a second class butcher, from Sarah. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Greenfield Township, Blair, Pennsylvania. Spelled Abraham Burget. Age 39 Page 310. Should be age 41, or else 1860 has an error. Check the original for details. Looks like the 1860 has the error cause in 1880 he was 49 which means that he was born in 1831. Check kids on both. 1870 is definitely this Abraham. has the following: Austin, Harvey, Margaret and Adlanta. BINGO! Just found on the 1870 on the preceeding page (other side of John Close), so 2 doors down from Abraham, which is definitely the father of Austin and descendant of my Jacob, the following: Joseph Burget age 61 farmer valued 2500 and wife LAVINA 44. Living with them is George Hetsel, farm laborer and the following children: Mary, Lavina, Joseph, Susan and John. SO, the widow Lavina on the 1880 and living next door to Abram and wife Elisabeth is INDEED the wife of Joseph Burket. Confusing; how does Joseph fit in here? 61 in 1870 means born 1809. Found this Joseph again on the 1850 as a 40 year old with a probable mother and widow Elisabeth age 62 so she is born in 1788. Interesting. New as of May 2007: this Joseph is the oldest son of John Jacob Burket and Elisabeth Boucher, Burgher, Bigham son of my Jacob. Big ABE is the youngest. There is 20 years difference. OK, living next door in 1880 is Lovina Burket (widowed) with her children Lizzie (23), Lovina, Joseph, Anna and John and her grandson Calvin Helsel age 11. These people must be related...so, Lovina is probably the wife of Abraham's brother. BUT, not Jacob cause he married Sarah Stiffler. HUM. OK, found the same family on the 1870--this time 2 doors down. Joseph Burget age 61 farmer valued 2500 and wife LAVINA 44. This means he is 20 years older than Abram. HUM. Listed as invalid. He appeared in the census in 1910 in , Blair, Pennsylvania. Abram J Burket NR Berth Butler 20 Pennsylvania
Living next to Adam Weyant age 48. Abraham's mother is supposedly a Weyant. Abraham died on 30 October 1914 in Greenfield Township, Bedford, Pennsylvania.87,135 83 years old. 111 J Burket 1831-1914 From Michelle Hamel. She sent for the Death information from Blair County. Abram J. Burket County: Blair Twp, Greenfield. EMORY BURKET is the witness for the information He was buried on 1 November 1914 in Upper Claar Church Cemetery, Klahr, Bedford, Pennsylvania. Date for burial from county death record ordered by Michelle Hamel. See death notes. Scan in the photo that I have of him from Trails and tales. HE IS MINE.
This sheds a whole new light on my family information. I think it is possible that the only error in the information for this line is in the connection with Jacob. This family should connect with my Jacob (who apparently isn't buried in the Upper Klaar cemetery) and not the 'other' Jacob. Here is the question. Someone inferred that J. Burket was indeed Abraham J. Burket who married Elisabeth Ickes. New October 2005. Hello! Look at the 1900 census of Austin Burket. He has Ickes cousins living with him. more Proof. 2004 research: Cemetery book 974.871 v3c v. 1-4 edited by Jan Oberle. published November 2000 Has the upper claar cememtery in Bedford County. She shows the row, plot number and gives inscription. GREAT! But then she trys to put families together from this...same as that other guy....or maybe this IS the same person. HERE is what is written on Elisabeth Burket's Headstone who is buried next to Austin Burket: 113 there was a bush, gone in 1999 BUT there is a space between J Burket and Elisabeth and Austin Burket and Esther. WHo knows who was buried there Possibly Jacob and Catherine? Possibly not. SO the ONLY Burkets buried in THIS spot of the Claar Cemetery are Austin and Esther, J and Elisabeth. INTERESTING. Upper Claar Cemetery in Klahr. wierd. (so the Abraham, she has in SMALL letters and has a note saying it is inferred from other records) BUT notice the 'J!' THis is A VERY good sign. Perhaps it was THIS Jacob who went to see the buffalos. That would sure clear up a lot of unsettling dates. and I threw in the Jacob between Abraham and our jacob just because I needed a Jacob. Now I realize I had one all along! I don't know, tho...it looks like I still need another person between the two. 1831 is too late. J. Emery is on page 71!! Have photocopied the page. "Big Abe" according to Debra1112@aol.com J. Emery Burket Letter says they just called him 'abe.' If this is the same Abraham as Debra's and as Burket Trails and Tales, then I have a picture of he and his wife. I see why they called him big abe. Burket Trails and Tales lists his Father as John Burket and his mother as Elisabeth Boucher. SO WE HAVE THREE SPELLINGS. BIGHAM BUGHER AND BOUCHER. ARE WE ALL TALKING ABOUT THE SAME PEOPLE HERE? See page 27 of 34 in trails and tales. IGI has him married to Elisabeth Ickes. 884541. Submitted 1976, so could be from a 'contaminated' source. Here is something interesting: on the 1880 Abram Burket is there as a 49 year old farmer with wife Elisabeth and NEXT DOOR is Lovina Burket, a widow (three years older than Abram) with 5 kids and one is a Joseph. So she is the widow of a burket and living next to Abram Burket. Is she the widow of a brother to Abram? They are all in Greenfield township on p. 321a. Abraham J. Burket (Wood Chopper, Butcher, Peddler) and Elisabeth Ickes were married in 1855 in of Greenfield Township, Blair, Pennsylvania.136 1900 census says married 45 years. This matches the info for the children as their first child was born in 1855. Interesting. The Claar Cemetery Book referenced in her husbands notes says she was born 12 December 1832. BUT no sources for the family info. and it was NOT on her headstone, only the year. VERY irritating. She appeared in the census in 1860 in Greenfield Township, Blair, Pennsylvania. Page 246. She died in 1917 in Upper Claar Cemetery, Klahr, Bedford, Pennsylvania. From her headstone 2004 research: Cemetery book 974.871 v3c v. 1-4 edited by Jan Oberle. published November 2000 Has the upper claar cememtery in Bedford County. She shows the row, plot number and gives inscription. GREAT! But then she trys to put families together from this...same as that other guy....or maybe this IS the same person. HERE is what is written on Elisabeth Burket's Headstone who is buried next to Austin Burket:
Abraham J. Burket (Wood Chopper, Butcher, Peddler) and Elisabeth Ickes had the following children:
