Descendants of Israel Burket--Narrative

Third Generation

17. Abraham Burket was born between 1784 and 1790 in St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. abraham is 50-60 on the 1830 and is also listed as male 10-16 on the 1800 with his father and 4 brothers, one sister. He is the first to show up on the tax lists and clearly the oldest. He appeared in the census in 1820 in St Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Indexed as Burget.

Next to Jacob. Probably his oldest son. He had 5, so it is highly likely. Abraham has one girl and one boy under 10 and his wife is under 26, he is over. Jacob had 3 sons on the 1790 and Abraham could have been one of them!

00100001 on 1830 That would be a male child 10-15 and Abraham is 50-60

Always next to Jacob in St. Clair. Tax lists and other.

OK by 1840 next to Joseph B. Ake and Henry Ickes. Ake was a bondsman for his father's will and Ickes was his names sake (his nephew) wife's maiden name. Big Abe married Elisabeth Ickes.

Abraham Burket and Elisabeth Mock were married. Elisabeth Mock (private).

Abraham Burket and Elisabeth Mock had the following children:

61

i.

Michael "Woodchopper" Burket was born in 1820 in of Union, Bedford, Pennsylvania. between 15 and 20 on the 1840 census plus oldest on his father's will and has sister Catherine born 10 January 1822 so this fits. He appeared in the census in 1840 in Union, Bedford, Pennsylvania. in father's household and listed as age 15-20. The will for his father was made the following year when Michael was newly of legal age--21. He is listed as one of the executors. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Union, Bedford, Pennsylvania. Indexed as Backert. Woodchopper in home of Charles and Sarah Wyant. Could be Sarah is his sister? He does have a sister Sarah born about 1830. Woodchopper appeared in the census in 1860 in Union, Bedford, Pennsylvania. Age 38 and living in the home of John and Ellen Fetter. Farm laborer. Next door is Charles Ickes. On same page are other Burkets--possibly not related. Must have been the only one of legal age in 1841 when his dad wrote the will

62

ii.

Julian Burket was born in 1825. age 10-15 on the 1840

63

iii.

Catherine Burket was born on 10 January 1822 in of Weyant, King Township, Bedford, Pennsylvania. Does this information belong to my Abraham? Weyant fits. Jacob Emery said Jacob's descendants settled in Mowry's Mills now Weyant. These kid would be about the right age to be Abraham's kids.

She married George Hartle 26 October 1839

64

iv.

Rachel Burket (private).

65

v.

Joseph Burket was born in 1828 in of Union, Bedford, Pennsylvania. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Union, Bedford, Pennsylvania. wife peggy is on next page. No kids yet. Age 22, Peggy age 25. This is probably him--no other Joseph's in the township. He was living in 1908 in , Indiana, Pennsylvania. Where did I get this? Thirteen when father wrote the will, 14 when he died.

10-15 on 1840 census and would have been 12 years old
