It was agreed that the Camp had a very busy year, a trend likely to continue, and that steps needed to be taken to insure our financial solvency allowed us to continue to grow and increase our regional visibility.

6. Br. Crain suggested that some additional expenses, such as wreath purchases, be done through special donation.

7. Allied Orders & Visitors

a. Camp #28: Commander Ken Richmond of Camp #28 announced his Camp has closed nominations for charter members and has forwarded their charter request to National. Camp #28 has also donated a re-usable wreath to Camp #1, which should minimize funds used for this purpose in the future.

b. Ladies of the GAR: Announced their next meeting on October 21st at Mitzel's in Fife. They have the capability of making memorial wreaths should any Allied Order need one. Mention was made of their efforts in Oregon to organize the Sons at Large into a Camp, spearheaded by Phyllis Houston. The next meeting on this topic will take place on September 23rd in Salem. A certificate was shown honoring LGAR member Mary E. Corser for 75 years of service to the LGAR. She was originally initiated into the order on 20 Jan 1925.

c. Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War: Announced their annual convention next June and Clara Barton Tent #1's monthly meetings in Seattle. They were happy to participate in the day's events and are standing by to do more.

d. The Camp's new Sons of Veteran's Reserve unit, C/76 PA Zouaves, continues to organize and make it's presence known. It now has 7 members and received kudos for participating in an event on 9-10 September in Oregon. They also had four members present for the Jesse Barrick Rededication at Tahoma National Cemetery. They are actively recruiting new members.

8. Commander Fleck began the introduction of 11 new candidates by stating that National is sending the Camp 1-2 applications a month. This is a good thing. After the names were read and the candidates agreed to uphold the ideals of the SUVCW, Br. Henningfield moved all candidates be accepted into the order. Motion carried.

9. Junior member Ted Kunjara was presented his membership medal by Commander Fleck.

10. Commander Fleck asked for a motion to open nominations for Camp officers. Motion by Br. Lucero carried. Nominations are open through the December meeting. Any Brother interested in filling one of the positions can email or otherwise contact Commander Fleck of their intentions.

11. Historical: The Camp received a card and photo from Joseph Feldman, who used to be Hiram Gale's official escort. A contribution of Sheridan Camp #24's roster the Camp was passed on to the Holts for transcribing and later posting to this site.

12. Other business: Br. Crain announced that KCTS 9 was looking for members of the Civil War Roundtable to man the phones during their fundraising efforts tomorrow from 9:15-3:15.

13. New Business: Br Richmond made mention of Br. Vaughn's donation to the scholarship fund. Also proposed that the Camp sell 2001 calendars since the idea of a SUVCW license plate was unsuccessful. The calendars will feature graphics related to the Civil War and the GAR, will be advertised through The Banner and could be available within the next month. The content of these calendars will not focus on any one state, region or event and will thus have a broad range of appeal to the Allied Orders. Motion by Br. Henningfield to begin with an initial printing of 500 carried.

14. Next meeting to be held 2 Dec 2000 at the IOOF Hall in Olympia. Meeting adjourned at 1:05pm.

Members of the Allied Orders met at 9:00 am at the GAR Cemetery in Seattle for their monthly work detail to maintain these sacred grounds.
