Meeting Minutes

Dec 2, 2000, IOOF Hall, Olympia, WA

1. Meeting called to order at 1200 hours by Commander Rod Fleck, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance..

2. Members present: 9.

3. Commander Fleck called for anyone who knew of a Brother that was ill or in need of assistance.

4. Motion by Cdr. Fleck to accept the September meeting minutes as written. Motion carried.

5. Treasurer's report. Br. Richmond motioned to pay current bills. Br. Holt second, motion carried.

6. Allied Orders & Visitors: Commander Ken Richmond of Camp #28 briefed us on the Veteran's Day activities in Pt. Angeles and of an upcoming celebration marking the anniversary of the Pt. Angeles area being named a National Military Reservation. Tentatively scheduled for June 17, 2001.

7. Br. Holt resurfaced the topic of kepis for purchase. There was discussion that the kepis should be both authentic in appearance and affordable. Br. Richmond will order a sample for display at the next meeting. Br. Holt also briefed the camp on the status of membership for his grandfather, a real son. All is going well, being handled by the Dept of Missouri.

8. Commander Fleck introduced one candidate for junior membership, the Camp's second. Welcome to Darren Joseph Thomas Chromey. His ancestor is James R. Scott, a veteran of Company A, 71st Illinois Infantry.

9. Commander Fleck asked for a motion to open nominations for Camp officers. Motion by Br. Bellerud to open nominations, second by Br. Vaughn. Nominations were received and voted on. Motion by Br. Fleck to close nominations, second by Br. Holt.

10. Commander Fleck briefed the Camp on the status of the Bois rededication scheduled for next Memorial Day. Currently scheduled for May 26, 2001 at the GAR Cemetery in Seattle. The National Medal of Honor Society will be contacted, planning is on track. The Seattle Parks Department is in receipt of the new headstone.

11. Br. Holt briefed the Camp on his transcription of membership records for GAR Post 5 and 24. Project is complete and passed on to Br. Henningfield for web posting.

12. Br. Henningfield briefed the status of the National GAR Post Census, now complete and posted on SUVCW's National website. He also had received information on the Seattle GAR Cemetery from Br. Crain and had reproduced it for d istribution. Camps #1 and #28 received copy. Spreadsheet forwarded and posted to the National Graves Registration Project

13. Br. Richmond spoke on the status of forming a new Camp in the Portland area. The driving force is the Allied Orders wish to host a National Encampment in the Rose City in 2005.

14. A tentative 2001 calendar was assembled and is posted.

14. Next meeting to be held 3 March at the IOOF Hall in Olympia. Meeting adjourned at 1:25pm.
