Working with the Telephone Pioneers of America, Member-at-Large Lee Thomasson was able to contact the Polson Museum in Hoquiam, Washington, resulting in the preservation of the Civil War monument shown. The monument was originally placed in the Hoquiam City Park in 1926 by the Daughters of Union Veterans. Over the years, the monument’s sundail had been vandalized, and later stolen. The monument had also suffered the effects of the elements. With permission from all parties involved, the monument was moved to the museum grounds, restored and repaired. At the rededication ceremony were many members of the Grays Harbor Genealogical Society. The DUVCW and Daughters of the American Revolution were represented by Sister Sharon Reynvaan. Brother Thomasson represented the SUVCW, as well as the Sons of the American Revolution. Hoquiam was home to Washington Post No. 52, Dept. of Wash. and Alaska, G.A.R. As his part in the National Graves Registration project, Brother Thomasson has listed all Civil War veterans with headstones at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Hoquiam. He has also washed and cleaned headstones there.
