Beech Creek / Blanchard Volunteer
Fire Company Ambulance has a long history of providing EMS service to
our area. In the earlier days days of our service our primary service
area encompassed a much larger area that
we run today and included Woolrich, Avis, Loganton, and a portion of Interstate 80. With the
passing of Act 45, our service area was changed to what it is today.
Several of our
life members attended the very first EMT class in the state, becoming early
leaders in EMS . Some of them are still
active and respond on calls today. Actual Program from the First EMT-A Class Graduation.
Beech Creek / Blanchard Ambulance is proud to be one of the few all volunteer companies in the area. We routinely run between 250 - 300 calls per year with 18 B level EMTs. Each EMT-B is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and must complete 188 class hours followed by a state written exam and a hands on skills practical test. Once certified, an EMT-B must complete 24 hours of continuing education classes to maintain certification every three years. Other mandatory trainings include a bi-yearly CPR refresher class, and yearly HazMat Operations and HIPPA/BSI refreshers.
Several of our members who had completed the EMT-B level and really enjoyed providing this service have gone on to the next level and become career paramedics (EMT-P). While these members cannot function with us as paramedics due to our licensure as a BLS service, their knowledge and experience add to the level of care we can provide. More often than not, our unit responds with one or more off-duty paramedic as part of the crew. Anyone who lives in our run area and who would like to become part of the Beech Creek / Blanchard team can contact us for membership information. If you would like to become an EMT and successfully complete the course and become certified, we'll reimburse your costs. Speaking from experience there is nothing more rewarding than saving a life, helping someone in their time of need, and making a difference when someone is sick or injured. EMS RUN TERRITORY
