This whole business of not knowing the gender of the baby is driving us nuts!


Everyone has their speculations -- on the whole most people we've been asking think its a boy. Our own intuition seems to point us in the boy direction too..

In a moment of weakness this evening we scoured the web for other-than-scientific methods for determining the baby's gender and found some funny methods..

First one was to use an ancient Chinese method for prediction which uses the mothers Chinese birthday (her western age + 9 months), and the date of conception:

Next we tried the ring and hair method recommended by our dear old friend Cri Zavattero. This predictor was accurate in predicting all FOUR of Cri's kids. This method has us tie a piece of Cindy's hair onto her wedding ring and then hold it over her belly (and also her wrist). If the ring swings like a pendulum the prediction is a boy. Swinging in a ellipse predicts a girl. The belly try proved inconclusive. however two tries at the wrist both resulted in pendulum motion.

Finally we found the "old-wives-tales" method for prediction which asked around 15 questions like "Does your belly look like a watermelon or a beachball?". Needless to say the questions were not great for one's self-esteem!

20 Weeks, 3 Days

Cindy and I took off from work early to head over to Alta Bates Hospital to do our 20 week ultrasound. Of course Sean hit major traffic and arrived just as Cindy was being called in. Despite the close call, the appointment was terrific. The baby appeared healthy and was very active during the session -- yawning, kicking, moving its arms. It was really amazing.







Afterwards, we drove over to Kirala for a victory dinner, but arrived 30 minutes before they opened. Took a stroll around the neighborhood and found a great art supply store where we stocked up on items for the mobile project Sean's been drawing out.

Kirala was amazing as always. We had our usual favorites -- Sea Bass, Agadashi, Scallop Sushi, Natto and other yummy treats.

We received a package from Cookie Phillips this week with a wonderful book inside called "The Meaning of Life".. A great story with hilarious animal pics.

Some great reminders on making sure we don't forget to enjoy the journey as we are expend so much energy to getting to the finish line.

Sean's old buddy John MacRill and his wife Deana reported the birth of their baby daughter Virginia today! The little one is named after John's mom whom I had the honor of meeting back in college.
