About our team
The SVY Chinooks are a team made up of boys and girls who all are striving to be the best swimmers they can be while having as much fun as possible. The team has a long history of competing in the Puget Sound Swim Association (the "Y League") and sends many swimmers into the USA meets as well as onto High School swim teams in the Skagit Valley.
During the YMCA swim season (September - March) there will be numerous dual meets as well as two or three multi-team meets. The season kicks off each year with the League wide Fall Fest. Every meet is broken into age groups (8&U, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-19). Each year a number of the team's swimmers advance to the Northwest Regional YMCA meet. The year ending Regional event is attended by swimmers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, who have each qualified for the event as a result of making times that are faster than the standards for their age and event.
The team is sponsored by the Skagit Valley YMCA and is supported by a parents club. Parental involvement in the home meets as well as fund raising is important to the success of the team. In this way the parents, family and swimmers all contribute to the fun and success of the swimmer and the team.
