Our branch proposal is currently being reviewed by the current Moped Army branch members. A seperate forum has been set up there, and we've been fielding questions about kHz and our activites. Stay tuned.
New photos are up from Saturday's fixit session and ride to Mt Auburn Cemetery.
We have 3MB of space left on the Comcast server. Leo might have some leads on server space at MIT. Affordable Host has affordable hosting, if we have to go that route.
Thanks go to Alison, Gabriel, Annie, and David, who came up from NYC & Bethlehem, PA to ride with us. Those guys made our weekend. Saturday's ride took us downtown to see the sights. Thanks also to Fred, who hosted a kegger on Saturday night, and whoa nelly, did things get nuts, literally.
Diana has located some cheap outdoor bbq-grill covers ($5.99) that are sized just perfectly to cover a moped. Email Diana if you want to be part of a group order.
After Fred posted on the Moped Army about our B-Side Lounge meetup, he was emailed by a rider named Annie. Annie's been stirring up trouble of the moped persuasion down in NYC with a Decepticon Scout and 1 Blue Shirt Holiday. They're Boston-bound next weekend and want to ride with us. Ride we shall.
We had a meetup at the B-Side Lounge last night, and a few welcomes are in order... Josh from the Michigan branch, the Decepticons, just moved here on Sunday to start a new teaching job. Welcome to Boston, Josh. Amber and Adam took a break from philosophical graduate studies at Tufts and came out to meet the group. Amber rides a Batavus top tank. Leo & Diana both made it out on their newly resurrected Batavuses.
We got greasemonkey on some mopeds last night. It was a manic scene at the MIT motorcycle hobby shop. Many thanks to Diana & Leo for out ticket in. Leo & Diana have working Batavuses now. Bent cranks were returned to their original shape. Carbs were cleaned, peds were crashed, and Jessica showed us what a hot muffler does to skin. Whoa.
We gathered our info for the Moped Army branch application, and it's in. Sources close to the Chief of Staff say "[it's] a good looking branch submission". The folks at Moped Army central command just closed up a round of application reviews, and said ours would be considered in the next round. We're advised to update them if our status changes between now and then. They review applications four times a year.
Finally, our boy David just got a new job. Hot damn. And Fred's relay team came in 5 out of 30 at the Lake Winnepasauke relay last weekend. Double hot damn.
We welcomed Leo to the group at the Middle East. He's working on one, two, three Batavuses.
We also settled on a name, kHz, and decided we're ready to apply for Moped Army branch status
Moped repair at Mikes... Jessica's Pinto is being sweet now. Very robust ped, that's for sure. Fred brought a seized, totally f'ed Garelli engine over. Sorry we didn't get much done w/ it, Fred. Were you carrying that thing around in the South End in your backpack all afternoon?? Gra-zy! Jefferson brakes his ped with his shoes. That's fearless and tough, right? And a heartfelt welcome to new swarmer, David. See photos from the day. David's the one who looks like the Mars Volta frontman. Swarm and Destroy, David, on that hot Puch toptank.
After repair, we all rode down to the South End for Open Studios. You know it: drinking tea w/ the pinkey out, checkin out the art. All the while, bringing respect to the moped.
A nod of legitamacy from the Moped Army... we've got a link. You'll find it in the "Clubs" section of links. Get a load of the copy. Cool, right?.
An afternoon of repair occurred at Jessica's place. See photos on photo page.
Inaugural meeting of Boston Mopedders occurred at the Miracle of Science in Cambridge, MA's Central Square last night. Boston area mopeds are -GO-. Plans were made to help newest recruit, Jessica, get her JCPenny Pinto back on the right path.
