Midwinter Woman

2008  /  20 ¾” x 41 ½”  /  Sold

This piece won First Place in the wall-hanging category for a recent challenge at Valley Fabrics quilt shop in Northampton, Mass.  The challenge was to use only five pre-packaged fabrics, but to embellish as much as I liked.  The figure is from an original pattern based on a photo.  She is fused and quilted.  To achieve a greater range of values, I painted several of the fabrics, adding warm tones to the sky and snow with textile paints and colored pencils.  The roses and red border are ribbon and there is lace in the snow.
