The recent lunar eclipse made me do it.
|

Lunar Eclipse
when the night begins to fold its arms
and the chill in the air has its way
i'm getting anxious to know
if you're ready to go
but i'm hoping you will stay
when the moon hides its face
it's dark maroon in outer space
if you think it's begun
in just a wink it's all undone
alley cat you follow me
so where you at? why can't i see?
every night you're on your feet
the same old sight a different street
when the night unfolds its hidden charms
and the chill in the air melts way
when the warm breezes blow
and we're getting to know
the lights across the bay
and the starlight shimmers in your eyes
with the milky way lighting the way
i suspect all this time
you've been reading my mind
there's nothing left to say

My Poison[PLAY]

track 2

He left a comment -- on my song
A proposition -- all along
I almost laughed -- and then I sighed
I typed a LOL -- and I let it slide
My mind was poisoned -- by that thought
My brain is poisoned -- by the thought
I thought I knew -- all along
But what I knew -- it was totally wrong
He fed me poison -- in my brain
A proposition -- quite insane
I started laughing -- I couldn't stop
Dead in my tracks -- by the very thought

This song is for the MJ Covers Challenge.
I decided to do a cover of michael2's original version of Everyone Relies on Time.
This song is also a collaboration. Many thanks to SmokeyVW for singing the backup vocals and helping with the choir. I had so much fun helping him on the MJ Coffee House Challenge song Meanwhile The Replicators I'm glad he could return the favor.
I changed the key, changed it to 5/4 (I adore 5/4), emphasized the "to heal" idea, and changed the repetitions a bit. I also reused some elements from michael2's original song, changed the bridge a little, and closed up by referring to "i passed your house ... again" to stress the obsession and dissociation in the lyrics.
And a big nod to michael2 and Bud for reviewing my early versions.

Everyone Relies on Time
by michael2
half a mile from here
i saw your car
half a mile from here
i passed your house
again
it's too early to tell
if i've gone queer
it's too late to say
that i feel weird
today
it's always today
everyone relies on time
everyone relies on time
to heal
how can i be sure
that we're both here
how can you be sure
that now's the time
it's too early to tell
if i've gone queer
it's too late to say
that i feel weird
today
it's always today
everyone relies on time
everyone relies on time
to heal
everyone relies on time
everyone relies on time
i passed your house
again

Another fantasy live performance.
I'm on 12-string and doing the reciting.

Meanwhile The Replicators
it's as perfect and cold as a crystal
yet we've only begun
our ideation
meanwhile the replicators
take note
of the recursive cycle
of the latest creation
in the spring
a time to regain
our emerald bearings
as the sprouting spill their seed
over the land
the spiraling seasons
each unlike any other
look at your chronometer
look at your heart
look at your life
look at your plan
meanwhile the replicators
have invaded our planet
in a room in the twilight
the old watchmaker
rechecks the crystal face
snaps close the solid case
of his latest creation
it's a pocket watch
unlike any other
interlocking gears
with a precise movement
and emerald bearings
and in its way
if we could see
it explains it all
crystal clear
how it is that we are here
but the daylight is failing
the watchmaker is blind
he stumbles
in the fall
he drops the timepiece
before he can hand us the thing
flailing hands
the case bursts open
spilling all over the floor
out of control
it's all come undone
the spring is spiraling
meanwhile the replicators
have invaded our planet
nothing can stop them
they fight tooth and nail
this new way of seeing
they cannot accept
this new way of being
but hold your thoughts
close to your heart
try to appreciate
the crystalline way
the emerald leaves
of order
will once again emerge
from snowblind chaos
give it time
as our flailing hands
keep moving in circles
day after day
meanwhile the replicators
have invaded our planet
nothing can stop them
as they continually evolve
and we will
eventually
begin to believe it
we
are they

Smile For Me Now[PLAY]

track 8
time 3:48

|
|
Smile For Me Now
I take your hand
And we walk
By the stream
Reach for the sky
Touch a star
Touch my face
Stop asking how
Simply smile
Carry on
Trails in the sand
As we talk
Of our dream
Stop asking why
Who we are
What's our place
Smile for me now
In a while
We'll be gone
Smile for me now
In a while
We'll be gone
