Our Local Cluster

"Our Local Cluster" ... kind of makes vast amounts of cubic parsecs sound small.

CA67

[PLAY]

   track 1 time 3:12

Windy Santee and Sandoz. Free association. Pure nostalgia for an imaginary road, from an imaginary time. A faraway windy day... our new school on Hanson Lane... when I first knew I must learn to play the guitar. My, oh my, how the winds have changed!

Do I Know You?

[PLAY]

   track 2 time 3:12

various ambient people sounds, plus a little drums, bass, etc.

I Am A Cat

[PLAY]

   track 3 time 2:21

Here's my cat. Elegant in her own way, beautiful like a living sculpture. And she knows this. She stretches, she poses, makes me ponder her ancient exotic ancestry. She will not be ignored. That's my cat.

~~~ notes ~~~
Built around a favorite chord progression (part of "Odyssey," a song I wrote years ago).
Luv
[PLAY]
   track 4 time 3:50
ring out the old
in the garden of eden
color space nostalgia
mood rings in the new
summer is almost over
Just Occasionally Still
[PLAY]
   track 5 time 3:04
This is about how digital clocks haunted me for several years.
This composition is very numerical. Several things that count out beats are definitely on purpose. I also found that by layering several echoes, you can form other entirely different phrases, which in this case are eerily apropos.
It still happens.
lyrics:
just occasionally still
still sometimes it happens
out of the blue
but not as often as before
i glance at the clock
it's eleven past nine
it happens
just occasionally still
Departure
[PLAY]
   track 6 time 5:44
piano, strings, ambient sounds
~~~ notes ~~~

I don't want to say too much about this and risk ruining your first impression. Just close your eyes and listen. Make up a story. Let me know what you came up with...

Dissociation Break

[PLAY]

   track 7 time 4:48

several drum loops and bass loops at different phase angles.
a little redshift.
some dissociated interstellar molecules.
and a fire across town.

lyrics:

a belief in the future

the architecture of the universe

machined elegance

congratulations to you all

gilded nudity

he beheld a shimmering, starry, blinding light

geometric shapes

futurism

no one on Earth is doing better than you are

Ack Ack

[PLAY]

   track 8 time 2:08

Distorted reality. Could be funny, but maybe it's not really funny at all. Especially if the reality being distorted is real reality.

Listlessness

[PLAY]

   track 9 time 6:49

I seem to have lost all my lists. What am I to do?

Just A Meter

[PLAY]

   track 10 time 4:07

Each meter down this road is fraught with danger.

Some more experiments with Gipsy Minor and multiple simultaneous time signatures.

It Slowly Dawned

[PLAY]

   track 11 time 5:02

An evolving realization.

grg

[PLAY]

   track 12 time 2:19

for a lost friend...

~~~ notes ~~~
whilst sharkin'
Singer
[PLAY]
   track 13 time 1:18
i wrote these words quite a while ago... but i finally had the gumption to put it to music...
Originally posted as a poem sing.
lyrics:
Singer
as the singer discretely hums
the needle joins the seams
the fabric of the schemes that the music becomes
as the photons fade
i find i cannot sleep
we cannot keep all the promises we've made
the wellness i feign
every day of the weak
in the words that i speak to escape the pain
we never guessed
as the footlights fade
the scripts that we made for the time we have left
still the singer discreetly hums
and we cannot yet sleep
so remember to keep what the music becomes
Blooper Reel
[PLAY]
   track 14 time 2:30
