In reference to Die Fledermaus.
No, not that classic opera.

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein

CauSaLiTy

There are bats living in my attic.
I didn't invite them,
Nor entice them,
But there they are.

Late at night I lie awake and wonder
If they're still up there
Hanging around
Or if they're out catching dinner.

By day, they don't occupy my thoughts.
There are plenty of other things to consider.
And by nightfall I've once again forgotten
To call an exterminator.

DiViNiTy

Late at night I lie awake and wonder
If He's still up there
Hanging around
Or if He's out catching dinner.

He's living in my attic.
I didn't invite Him,
Nor intentionally entice Him,
But there He is.

By day, He doesn't occupy my thoughts.
There are plenty of other things to consider.
And by nightfall I've once again forgotten
To call an exterminator.

Here I am again restlessly tossing and turning
And then lying still,
Listening for a sign of His presence
And wondering if He's really there.

Late at night she lies awake and wonders
If I'm still up there
Hanging around
Or if I'm out catching dinner.

I'm living in her attic.
She didn't invite me,
Nor intentionally entice me,
But there I am.

By day, I don't occupy her thoughts.
There are plenty of other things to consider.
And by nightfall she's once again forgotten
To call an exterminator.

There she is again tossing and turning
And then lying still,
Listening intently for a sign of my presence
And wondering if I'm actually there.

Late at night I lie awake and wonder
If you're still up there
Hanging around
Or if you're out catching dinner.

You're living in my attic.
I didn't invite you,
Nor intentionally entice you,
But there you are.

By day, you don't occupy my thoughts.
There are plenty of other things to worry about.
And by nightfall I've once again forgotten
To call an exterminator.

Here I am again restlessly tossing and turning
And then lying motionless,
Listening for a hint of your presence
And wondering if you're here.
