cotton hollow

the continuous sunlight although gapped
is here stopped by my skin
where it brings patches of soothing warmth

            and insight

even in the shadows
where there are no gaps between the leaves to admit the sun
i feel comfort from the air itself

a mere breath of a breeze touches my face
      and brings welcome refreshment
as my body deflects it and forms eddies and an idle concept

i think i've been watching the stream flow by
smoothly curving over and around the stepping stones
dutifully carrying away debris and fish

            and leaves

it seems quite clear that the stones direct the current
since mere fluid water is no match for solid rock

but long after this moment has passed
after i'm gone from this place
the unceasing river will have further carved these same stones
