OK, here are some photos of my fish. I have mostly Lionheads, and a few Orandas. The Lionhead has no dorsal fins and is rather cumbersome. A good Lionhead can be kept with other slow moving varieties such as the Oranda and can usually get enough food to survive. Monitor the fish at feeding times when first introduced and make sure that it is getting enough to eat. The Lionhead has short fins with a double caudal and anal fins. Lionheads can grow to about eight inches. The Lionhead has a broad head that is completely covered by a fleshy hood that looks like a lion's mane. Its mouth, nostril and eyes are not covered by the hood. Thick hood development starts at about 18 months, and is not complete until they are three to four years old. The Oranda is a cross between a Lionhead and a Veiltail. Orandas have the head features of the Lionhead, but the body of the Veiltail.

Enjoy, but remember that all images are the property of TABco Industries.

The pictures above show an adult Red Lionhead that has a fairly well developed hood. Younger fish in the background are all Lionheads, except for the last photo witch has two Redcap Orandas in the foreground. Note the extended lips while the fish searches for food on the first two and last photos.

Note the lack of hood development on the young lionheads above.

The first picture above shows an adult Lionhead, a young Lionhead, and a Redcap Oranda. The second photo is two young Lionheads. The fish on the right looks a bit like a Oranda, but notice the lack of the dorsal fin.

The Redcap Orandas above are quite young.

These two shots show my first Lionhead. Early development shows great promise. A tiny black spot on his nose looks quite a bit like a mustache. There is also a larger uniform black spot on the mid back, and black ends on all fins.
