Perhaps
you are not aware of The Tackett Family Association, so
we're taking this opportunity to let you know a little bit about
us.
Founded in 1963: Several researchers had been working on our surname for many years and in 1963 some of these folks decided to pool their efforts and the Tackett Family Association was formed. The original name was The American Pioneers, but we found that libraries, and other depositories, filed us by "A" [for "American"], so we changed the official name to The Tackett Family Assn. in 1989 - now we can be found under "T." [Sure makes it easier for those researching the name!]
The founding officers were the late Max Andrew Tackett, then Chief-of-Police of Texarkana, AR, (Lewis Tackett, SC), the late Gladys Hanes Inman of Orofino, ID, (Lewis Tackett, WV), the late Juble Tackett of Pikeville, KY, James Wm. "Jim W." Tackitt, then of Live Oak, CA, and Howard R. Tackitt, then of Chico, CA as our treasurer (Nimrod Tackitt, VA). Other officers since then have been the late Carl Dwight Tackitt of Ozark Co., MO, and Florida, (Wm. Tackitt Sr., c1750 KY), Johnnie Thural Tackitt of Texas, (Lancaster Tackitt, KY/AL), the late Clella Elizabeth "Beth" Moody Williams (Rev. Pleasant Tackitt, AR/TX), David George Tackett (Lewis Tackett, SC), and current 2nd Vice President, John Benton Tackett of Pikeville, KY (Wm. Tackitt Sr., 1779 KY).
Since 1963 we have sent out several thousand flyers and cards to Tackett/Tackitt folks all over the U.S. so chances are that someone in your family has heard of us.
During our period of operation, 1963-2004, we enrolled over 1400 members.
Jim W. Tackitt's home office in Rio Vista, Calif. now contains over 25 standard file cabinet drawers of hard copy records & photos [close to 60 cubic feet] - and is growing daily. After the death of Mr. Tackitt, or his retirement from active research, his collection will be mostly donated to the archives at The Allara Library, Pikeville College, Pikeville, Pike Co., KY, or his designee at that time.
