The Revolutionary War

(1775-1783)

Three Tacketts have been identified as actual members of the State Militia or Continental Line in Virginia during The Revolutionary War. These were:

Note: Lewis Tackett, c1730-c1832, of Kanawha Co., VA, has been accepted by the D.A.R. as a "Patriot of the Revolution" on the basis of goods supplied to Continental forces.

War of 1812

Tacketts in the War of 1812 was a special feature in issue 12:4 of The American Pioneer, Journal of the Tackett Family Assn. in 1975. (This issue available for $7.50 postpaid). Those featured, with either abstracts or exact copies of their military records, include: William Tackett (West TN), Thomas Tackett (KY), Thomas Tackett (KY), Philip Tackett (MO), Lewis Tackett (IN), John Tackett (IN), John Tackett (East TN), James Tackett (West TN), George Tackett (MS Terr.), Enoch Tackett (VA), Archibald Tackett (VA), and John Wesley Tackitt (VA)

The Mexican War

(1846-1848)

We have only identified two Tacketts as veterans from this war: Allen Jackson Tackitt, 1826-1895, VA>MO>CA, a grandson of Nimrod Tackitt Sr., c1765-1837, and Mann Darius Tackitt, 1815-1863, MO>AR>TX, a s/o Lewis Tackitt, 1770-1850. (Note: It is the photo of Allen Jackson Tackitt which appears in the Tackett Family Association logo.)

The Civil War

(1861-1865)

Our most extensive listing is for The Civil War with some 150 listings from both the Union and the Confederacy. Some saw service under both flags! Our lists have been published in series in numerous back issues of the Tackett Journal. You can search our Descriptive Table of Contents for more details. We have the Pension & Military records of many of these veterans in our files.

The Spanish-American War

1898

Following are Tacketts we have identified as being veterans from this war: Joseph Wm. Tackitt, 1870-1946 (CA) and William O. Tackitt, 1874-1954 (MO>CA). Both were gt.grandsons of Nimrod Tackitt, c1765-1837, of Monroe Co., VA/WV; Jack Robert Tackett, M.D., 1868-?, died at Meridian, MS. His line: John Tackett, M.D., George Tackett, c1780NC, to Madison Co., AL and Holmes Co., MS.
