Below we have posted photos some of the over 3,500 indexed individuals from the collection of The Tackett Family Assn. who have roots in Pike & Floyd Co., Kentucky. The photos in this collection contain many originals, but most are copies of originals that we have collected over the past 40 years, and a few are scanned images found with printed church obits, newspaper obits & books. Included are hundreds of headstone photos, photos of area churches, and other prints that may be of historical interest. It is our intent to donate this collection to Special Collections, Allara Library, Pikeville College, Pike Co., KY. This Tackett Assn. photo, #JUB45.13, is significantly retouched from an unidentified book or newspaper with the caption: "A Mountain Woman - Aunt Josie Tackett's grandmother of Cherokee Indian stock who lived for more than a century." In another report, Mahala is noted as being "1/2 Cherokee". Aunt Josie" was Josephine Johnson Tackitt, c1884/86-1981, the wife of Wreck "Reck" Von Tackitt, 1881-1963, of Lick Fork of Beefhide, Pike Co., Kentucky. |

The Marion Little Family of Floyd & Pike Co., KY: The photo of Marion Little, 1863-1947, on the left was scanned from a printed copy in the 1947 Minutes of The New Salem Assn. of Old Reg. Baptists. The photo on the right, prob. taken in the late 1920's, shows, from l/r: Pearl Little [Mrs. Dennis Hall], Allie Little [Mrs. Richard Burke], Minerva Johnson Little, Marion Little, unidentified lady [prob. Eliza Little who marr. Newberry Brown], Ida Little [Mrs. Willard Tackitt] and Lucinda Little [Mrs. Samuel P. Elswick]. This family photo is from an original in "The Hassell Tackett Collection," on file with The Tackett Family Assn. as Photo #HAS.03.37. Marion Little was reported in his 1947 obit to have been born at what is now Wheelwright, Floyd Co., KY, on 8 Apr 1863. He was a son of Moses Little (c1831-c1925) and Candice "Dacy" Osborn(e), 1833-1875. Marion was marr/1 to Frankie J. Hall, 1862-1903, reported to have been a dau. of John William, aka George Washington, Hall and Lucinda Hall. Their children were Louisa Belle Little [Mrs. Melvin Hall], Creed Little [Sarah Elswick], Lucinda Little [Mrs. Samuel P. Elswick], Daisy Little [John Henry Hopkins], Eliza Little [Newberry Brown], Ellis Little [Gracie Victoria Tackett], Ida Little [Willard Tackitt], Arlen Little, and Allie Little [Mrs. Richard Burke]. After Frankie died, Marion was marr. to Minerva "Nervie" Johnson, 1865-1945, [parentage unknown] who was marr/1 to a Collier. Marion & Minerva had three children: Pearl Little [Mrs. Dennis Hall], Garland Little, and Curtis J. Little [Margarette Burke]. |
