and born in Newburn, Dyer Co., TN [obit]. Although we have yet
to locate Ithmar's ancestry, he is most likely a descendant of
Rufus Tackitt [Willett] and his 2nd "partner,"
Sarah Jane "Jennie Nichols. Sarah Jane moved to Dyer
Co. and then Gibson Co., TN by 1900, coming from Tishomingo Co.,
MS.

you are. I have two Tackett lines from E. KY, but am stumped
on one. My gg grandmother was a RHODA TACKETT b. around
1865 and married a Wilburn ARTIS. Their Daughter Ella
was my grandmother Estlean Justice's mother. I have found
many Rhoda Tacketts, but none that convince me I have the right
one. LDS has Mathew Tackett as her father, but I think
this is a different Rhoda Tackett. Does anyone know this

Johnson, was unmarried. Of course she could have had a child
that we are not aware of, although this family is rather well-known
to me and I've known several of the grandchildren. As you are
probably aware, the LDS Family Search records are not very accurate;
as some would say, "notoriously inaccurate."
From the 1880 & 1900 Greenup Co., KY Census, it appears
that your Rhoda Tackett, b c1865, is Rhoda, b cMar 1867,
the probable baseborn dau. of Nancy Tackett, b c1823,
a dau. of George W. Tackitt and Ara/Ary, from Floyd Co.,
KY.

a fair amount of material on Chalmer's line back to Wm. Carroll
Tackett from Tenn. [marr. to a Mary Ann JACO], we
have yet to prove his parentage. Wm. C. appears to be
one of several siblings in this family. His apparent brother,
Eldridge Tackett, c1830/35-1863, was also married to a
Mrs. Catherine JACO [perhaps her former husband's surname].
Both Eldridge & Wm. Carroll served in the same unit
during the Civil War (Union). Eldridge's 2nd wife, Elizabeth,
abandoned the children after Eldridge's death during the
War "leaving them [the children] wholly to the mercy of
the world." [Civil War Pension file]

to connect me with any Tacketts. I do know my mother is/was a
Tackett. Mother, Wanda Jo Tackett Brandeburgh, dob 11-12-1957.
Her Father was John Henry Jackson Tackett (9-15-1919 through
3-23-1974) Married Alice Jo Loper, dob 6-20-1931. I belive
they were married on or about 10-21-1950 and had 5 children.
Most of the dates are approximate. John's parents were Albert
Jefferson Tackett and Buelah? Inez Dill? Albert's
parents were Jeff Tackett and Julia Norris I belive.
Someone Please help me. This is very important as I now have
an infant son and my sister has an infant daughter. We would

Comments: I've visited this site several times... Need to visit
with my father to disuss tree, he's now 83. he is the son of
Thomas Jefferson Tackett. My father was born in Chappel
Hill, VA He later met my mother(Mary Tighe)while stationed in
Windsor Lockes, CT later settling in Hartford, CT after WWII.
My grandfather lived in Stem, NC in what was once his mothers
house. He married a Lynn, and after her passing, he married her
sister (another Lynn) and then believe it or not, after the second
passing, he married the final sister, another Lynn.
My fathers sister, Marge Tackett-Orlowski currently lives in
NJ and has the family bible. I'll begin my search there...
For me, I am the youngest of 7, 43 years old and just recently
relocated to Texas.
This is a great web-page! When I get my facts together, I'll

Solomon Tacketts, particularly in Eastern KY. This particular
one is probably the same as King Solomon Tackitt,
1857-1941, of Pike Co., KY, who had a son named Arlie,
b 1923, Powell Co., KY, [lived in Bowen, KY in 1962] being by
King Solomon's 3rd wife, Stanley Townsend. There
were 22 children born to this King Solomon and by his 3 wives,
Rhoda Tackitt, Louisa Damron & Stanley Townsend. Miss
Townsend was abt 42 years younger than King Solomon. A
possible problem with this scenario is that we don't have a child
of this Arlie Tackett listed by the name of Alice,
but do have seven other children named.

Cem. at Tram, Floyd Co., KY. We photographed his small concrete

Elizabeth married Judge Caleb Davis, then had ten children.
They moved to Arkansas after the New Madrid, Mo earthquake destroyed
thier home.

There is a great record of the Tackett in the Pope Co history
book(Vol I).
Elizabeth was a Sunday School teach for 50 years (i have her
obit)is buried in Pope Co,Ar where they lived for 53 years.
If anyone has a picture of Elizabeth 1808-1890 at any time
of her life, I would love to hear from you.
Also I have picture of Rev Pleasant Tackett and Lancaster

1884 in Texas; married Celeste Madora Levy 1905. He died in Fort

Eugene, Doris Nell and Jack Maurice. The 1910 Texas Census indicates
that William L. Tackett's father and mother were born in Texas,
as was he. There was another Tackett listed in City Directory
for Fort Worth in 1907, Jesse L. Tackett, but his name does not
show in later years or in the later census. Celeste Madora Levy
Tackett's entries show that her mother was born in Arkansas and
her father in Tennessee. Have checked Tennesee and Arkansas for
Tacketts but could not make any connections.

know how much this site has helped me try to sort the confusion.
My Grandfather was Duran Tackett of Melvin, Ky, s/o Andrew Hawkins
Tackett. His father was James Tackett who was the s/o William
"Bucky" Tackett of Pike Co., Ky. Duran's 2nd wife was
my grandmother, Emma Tackett, the daughter of William Buck Tackett

Yes, Rhonda's children do have a very concentrated Tackett lineage
- but some of our Pike/Floyd Co. members have as many as EIGHT
lines back to Elder Wm. Tackitt Sr., and/or one of his siblings.
Her grandfather was Calvin Duran Tackett, 1899-1977. His father
was born Andrew Hawkins Tackitt, but to our knowledge, all of
his descendants have changed the spelling to "ett."
So, the line goes, Calvin Duran Tackett, Andrew Hawkins Tackitt,
James, Wm. Jr., Elder Wm. Tackitt Sr., 1779-1851, Pike Co., KY.
Rhonda's spouse's grandfather, William Green Tackett, 1881-1956,

that Thomas Tacket had a sister Ella Tacket. His mother
was Kate Kelley, born abt 1868. She married James Bradley, born
abt 1835, and he raised Thomas and eventually Thomas started
using the Bradley name. Kate Kelley also had Wilburn, Oscar,
George to James Bradley. Her mother is Jane Kelley, born abt.
1831. Can anyone please help me find out who Thomas's father
was. They lived in Carter, Ky. and James Bradley died before
the 1910 census. Thomas Tacket (Bradley) moved to Twin Branch,
WV in 1914.

Jefferson Davis Tackett and Martha Boggs were married in
Johnson County Kentucky on March 15, 1892. His age is listed

VA page, and have a map out of Troy R. Keesee's "Wataugah
Land Purchases", showing the plat of land William Tackett

do have several references to the Wm. Tacket (sic) and the Watauga
Land Purchases, we have not seen the map to which you refer,
but just know that this land was " [472 acres] on the head
of Boone's Creek (near Jonesborough)."
We are not sure which of the several early WILLIAM TACKETTs is
the one connected to the "Watauga Land Purchases."
It was not William Tackitt Sr., 1779-1851, of Pike Co., KY, as
the land was patented to an earlier Wm. Tacket [of the the Watauga
Land Assn.] on 10 Aug 1775, but he MAY have been William Tackitt
Sr., of Wayne Co., KY.

Although not noted with the family in the 1920 Lincoln Co., WV
Census, we assume that Cline does correctly have his father's
parents as noted. This being the case, then, his line is: Cline
Ernest Tackett, (1914), Cornelius B. (1873-1957), Elijah (1842-1903),
William L. Tackett (1807-aft1900), most likely a son of
one of the two John Tacketts for that generation in Kanawha/Greenbrier
Co., VA.

Jim W. Tackitt: This is a family for whom we have seen several
queries. Unfortunately, none have presented any verifiable evidence
to show that a person by the name of Reuben B. Tackett even existed.
This is an odd predicament as we have most of the census returns
for the U.S. & Indian Territory, as it applies, from 1790
thru 1910, plus thousands of court records. Of the several Reuben/Ruben
Tacketts we DO have on file, the only one that remotely could
fit this profile would be a REUBEN TACKITT, b c1859, Louisiana,
noted in the household of Nathan Van Buren Tackitt, 1807-c1871/79.
It is not even certain that this REUBEN was even a Tackitt by
birth. He does seem more likely to have been a step-son, but
may have taken the Tackitt/Tackett surname. Some of this family
did settle in Texas, but not Parker County. We are aware of several
Tackitt/Tackett families that did settle in the Weatherford,
Parker Co., Texas area, but none being a Reuben Tackett. Well,
we keep looking and daily add new material to our files.

has sent my a lot of good stuff.
I am trying very hard to find the name of the mother of Louisa
Elizabeth Miller who married Andrew Chester Tackitt in
1864 when she was only 12. Louisa's father was solomon Miller
and probably married her mother at Fort Gibson, Indian Territory
about 1848. Louisa was born at Fort Phantom Hill in 1852 and
I have information, not proof, that Louisa's mother died at Fort
Belknap, Young Co. Texas about 1857.
Since Louisa gave birth to six little Tackitts, I have slight
hopes that some one may have a clue.

Comments: after just speaking with my grandmother, Lesta Tackett,
i found out some very interesting info about her father, Wilburn
Lee Tackett, i was told that after my great grandmother, Catherine
"kattie" moore-tackett, passed away, my great grandfather
married again, my grandmother said he married a woman named edith
hamilton-tackett, i was also told about how earl tackett, who
my grand mother says was her half brother, that he was killed
in a coal bank accident when he was about 12 yrs old, and that
my great grandfather wilburn lee tackett, was also injured when
this happened, wilburn had lit a stick of dynamite while mining
for his own coal, and earl tackett was with him, along with another
brother or half brother of my grandmothers and my grandmother
said that after her dad lit the dynamite they all went running
and that earl did not get out of the coal bank in time, and she
said that her dad was also injured from this accident (he sustained
injuries to his back) and was unable to work for a spell thereafter,
and the other brother of half brother of my grandmother made
it out and he being the only one that was unharmed, ran for help,
i was also told by my grandmother that rhoda tackett fell from
a ladder and because of injuries sustained from the fall, both
she and her unborn child died, can anyone tell me anything more
about these sad accidents? also, i will be visiting my grandmother
soon in indiana, and will be taking along a cassette recorder
to record some of the stories of my tackett family, this was
in fact the idea of my grandmother Lesta Tackett, so to those
of you who still have tackett family remaining, i urge you to
just listen and record these stories, so that you too can pass
them down from generation to generation, anyone else in my tackett
line, feel free to e-mail or snail mail me any time, thanks...

my great grand mother, who died in floyd county ky on january
19, 1929, she was married to Carlos Tackett, years of birth and
death for him are not known, they had several children, my grand
mother is Lesta A tackett Stout married to Paul E Sout
in Newport news virginia, Lesta A Tackett was born in
frasiers creek ky on may 19, 1920, she has several siblings,
who are as follows, Nevel Tackett, dates for birt and
death are unknown, but my grand mother believes she was born
in Little Mud, Nevel Tackett died at about 1 month old,
from diptheria, in KY < Clifford tackett, brother,
years for birth and death unknown, Wendell Tackett, brother,
who was born between 1917 and 1919, Carmel Tackett, brother,
who is now 86 years old and living in the state of illinois,
Blanche Tackett, sister, dates for birth and death are
unknown, Brooke Tackett, sister, dates for birth and death
are unknown, Bessie Tackett, sister, date of birth is
unknown, she is currently in the hospital and in poor health
in west virginia, Earl Tackett and and Carl Tackett
were said by my grand mother that she elieves they were half
brothers, but her an her siblings helped to raise them, my grand
others mother, Katie Moore Tackett died when my grand
mother was 8 years old, Katie Tackett Moore's parents
were General Moore, and Elzabeth Stumbow Moore

ky, an uncle of Lesta A Tackett was Basil Tackett, Basil Tackett
had three sons, Andy (may have been Andrew) Tackett, Evan Tackett,
and Burt Tackett, some cousins of Lesta A Tackett were Joe P
Tackett and Arvil (or sounds like Arvil) Tackett, another cousin
of my grand mother was Ray Hamilton, Wilburn Lee Tackett, is
also related to my grand mother, not sure if he was a cousin
or an uncle of my grand mothers, my grand mother had 1 son with
Edd Pack, who left my grand mother just before the baby was born,
that 1 child was my father, Edd Junior Pack, who was born in
Martin KY on may 25, 1945, and died in michigan city indiana
on july 6, 1991, the name of my father is incorrect in the tackett
family genealogy book that my grand mothers sister had before
she passed away, my father, Edd Junior Pack married my mother
Dixie Shirline Ponder-Pack, and tey had 8 children together,
including myself, and my mother had two children before her and

son, born in 1966 and died in 1966 from an auto accident in laporte

Comments:I am looking for information on a Rosa TACKETT.
According to her tombstone, she was born in 1831, and died in
Kansas City, MO 4 May 1903. She is
buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Kansas City. Rosa married Robert
WALLACE and had 5 children.
One of her children, Sarah Ann, married Wakefield SEARCY
in Kansas City. The only other Tackett
information I have is that Rosa's parents may have come to Missouri
from New York. Rosa had a

Tackitt. Ms. Birbaum's line is from the only family of this surname
in America, we are aware
of, that had its origins in Ireland. The surname was most likely
TACKET but was soon to be
TACKETT. Rosa Tackett Wallace seems to be one of the five children
of an "unknown" Tacket who
settled in the Kansas City area around 1860. We have never had
contact with any of this family,
of the present generation, who now bear the surname of TACKETT
but there could be a few.

our knowledge, there has been no verifiable evidence located

Comments: I noticed a reference to Berryville, AR in a
message from 1999. The Berryville, Carroll Cty [County], AR Tacketts
are still around. I learned just a few months ago that my grandmother,
Della Mae Tackett, was a descendant of the Mountain Meadows
Tacketts.
My line is Della Mae, d/o Thomas B. c1884, s/o Emberson
Milum c1853 (Mtn Mdws
survivor), s/o Pleasant Tackett c1832, s/o Martin c1810, s/o
Lewis c1770. My grandmother had only one brother, who died fairly
young, and twin sisters. The family names are now Foster and
Grogan - and there are a lot of us! Does anyone know to whom
the two suriving Tackett boys (Emberson & William Henry,
c1855) were returned? I have to say I'm amazed at the history

member of this family, that we are aware of, did return to Carroll
Co., AR, but apparently did not leave any descendants to pass
along the surname. The marr. record of Mrs. Litow's Thomas
Tackitt (sic) to Cora Jones, is on record in the Carroll
Co., AR Courthouse, dated 3 May 1906. I'm not one of them, but
I've had contact with several descendants of both Wm. Henry
and Emberson Milum Tackitt over the years and all use
the "Tackitt" spelling. The two boys
who survived the massacre [Wm. Henry & Emberson Milum] were
returned to the home of their grandparents, Emberson &
Sarah Allred? Miller in Carroll Co.,
AR. Emberson Milum Tackitt later moved to Cherokee
Co., KS and Arizona and Wm. Henry Tackitt
settled in Taney Co., MO where he died in 1891. His widow
moved to Fresno Co., CA by 1900.

b. 11 Jan, 1853. He married Fannie Cole. I believe

so I don't know if it's correct, or simply her guess. Additionally,

being descended from William Tackett and Thomas Johnson,

Luella Tackett Peer. Born on November 5,1926 around the Ozarks
of Missouri. Her parents were Mr.Mrs Luther Tackett, her
mom's full name was Cora Jane Harris. My mom had one brother,
James Tackett, and eight sisters. Well, I guess I better stop
before I run out of room. But, If anyone in Missouri, or anywhere
else who might be related to us, I have some more information
that I would like to share.
I'm planing on starting a family website hopefully
to connect the Peer's and the Tackett's together, however I don't

record of this Mary Tacket, but by an odd coincidence,
one finds in the Tuscaloosa Co., AL
Marr. Records, the marriage dated 13 Nov 1883 of JAMES TACKETT
to MARY E. LUCK [M:149].
Considering what you have, it could be that the transcriber of
this marriage record had the surnames reversed???

b 1901, fitting this profile in the 1910 KY
Census, nor none in our 90,000 entry dB or our
extensive Tackett marriage files. Send along any
documented you have on the family [marriage,

surfing the net for one of my surnames and saw that you still

I am decented from Elizabeth Tackett who was daughter
of Lewis Tackett and Susan Sumpter. Elizabeth married
first Othy Barnett, and was supposed to have had a daughter named
Mary Polly Barnett, I have still not proven that she is
their daughter as many still say they didn't have any children.
Have you seen anything to prove that Othy Barnett was Mary Polly
Father, or that Elizabeth and Othy did have this one child ..
you have done a wonderful job , as usual, keep up

only that Elizabeth Tackett had a child by Otho Barnett. This
MARY "Polly" BARNETT, 1822-1867, was, according to
her headstone, born 2 years prior to the marriage of record for
Othy Barnett and Elizabeth Tackett. [Elizabeth Tackett Barnett
was marr/2 to Robert Tackett, 1815-1880, on 20 Mar 1837 in Floyd
Co., KY. No record of a child named MARY in connection with this
family] . . . but, Othy Barnett was an elusive gentleman
who may have moved west to Missouri with his assumed brother,
Elias, who had deserted his family. Some say this was also the
case with Othy.

here. Have just started tracking my heritage. Planning on taking
a day off work next week to go to court house or libraries in
Hazen and Hunter Arkansas. My dad's name was Johnny George
Tackett, ss has his name spelled Jonnie Tackett his
date of birth was 5-3-35 born in Hunter, AR. Died 6-5-72. His
father was John Wesley Tackett, date of birth 8-14-1894
died 5-1969 in Hazen, Prarie County, AR. married to Gracie Tackett,
date of birth 3-14-1908 died October 1981 in Jacksonville, Pulaski
County, Arkansas. I have no idea what her maiden name was at
this time. My grandfather was married prior to my grandmother
but do not know who too. My father's brothers are all dead and
he has one sister but do not know how to locate her. I have been
told my great grandfather's name was Johnny George Tackett also
but no one can tell me for sure that is why I am going looking,
I have also been told that my great grandfather was a full blood
Cherokee Indian. Have not found anything out planning on making
the trip to Hazen next week. Hunter, Arkansas has no library
or court house so hoping the court house and library in Hazen,
AR. will be able to help. All are buried in the Cementary in

Grace & John W. Tackett are all buried in the Hazen Cem.
at Hazen, AR. The 1880 Prairie Co., AR Census "indicates"
that the father of your John Wesley Tackett was perhaps
John G. Tackett and likely his 2nd wife, V. Alice Moore,
