Picnic Dress, Attack of the Clones

This costume is a work in progress for my sister, to wear to CIII and RotS.

The main motivation for this costume is for my sister to have fun dressing up for the upcoming Star Wars events. Okay, and I might have told her that she would be in costume, and that she had no real choice in the matter. Ahem, anyway, the choice of costumes was hers. She's not concerned with the dress being perfectly authentic and accurate, so I'm using Simplicity 5843.

Updates: Material has been purchased for the dress, the shawl, and the underlayer of the corset. The mock-up of the dress is finished and waiting for her to try it on when she arrives on the West Coast this week. Hopefully I can get something done on the corset mockup by then as well. Pictures of work-in-progress will be posted after that.

Shawl material: Victoria Classics Vintage Tablecloth, from Ross', for $10.

Dress material: some sort of lightweight, filmy polyester, found in the Hancock Fabrics clearance isle. The good: the color is a very good match, comparing to the picture to the right. Oh, and the material flows very nicely. The bad: it has no pre-existing embroidery. I have never embroidered before, neither has my sister. The possibility of such happening... remains to be seen. Also, the material is lightweight enough that an underskirt of some sort will be necessary.
