If drivers must always turn at an intersection, the flashing red or green arrow is in order, as in TFGAP-S. On the other hand, drivers can only go straight at a mid-block crosswalk.
A restricted lane signal might use a diamond, to more closely correspond with the sign. If one were to broaden the notion of lane restrictions to road restrictions, then the diamond could also be used with the hazardous materials sign.
