Career:
Lumpy,
a wheat and sheep farmer from the northern part
of Simsbury, started playing base ball when he
was 7 years old. Lumpy loved playing catch
with his older brother. He used to bring a bag
of base balls up to the field in the north and
toss fly balls with his brother all day long.
Every once in a while, Lumpy would miss catching
the ball and it would land square on one of his
sheep’s head. Old man Olson, Lumpy’s dad, never
could understand why the sheep sometimes had
lumps on their head. Then one afternoon he saw
one of the sheep get hit in the head by a ball
Lumpy dropped. It was from that point on that
Charles Olson would be known to his dad and
friends as “Lumpy”. |
