Career:  Smitty began playing base ball for the Sing Sing Songbirds in the old New York-Pen League.  Part of the original “Murderers Row”, he has played over the years for such other teams as the San Quentin Squealers, the Folsom Flimflammers, the Leavenworth Larceny and the Alcatraz Birdmen.  His base stealing abilities and frequent fence scaling have become legendary. Asked why he still plays base ball, he simply says “I guess I’m just comfortable in pinstripes”.
