(Simsbury, CT. – by Mike D’Apice) - Rest
easy, Farmington Valley! Your mighty, mighty
vintage Simsbury Taverneers have returned from
the inaugural Pittsfield Invitational Ballist
(baseball) tournament!
Back and eager for further challenge, while
some of you slept and others of you recreated,
your vintage (1860’s through 1880’s rules)
ballist lads (ballplayers) defended your honor
in a gentlemanly fashion by recently defeating
the skilled and courageous Westfield Wheelmen
before exuberantly gleeful cranks (fans) at the
Taverneers’ Simsbury High School home field.
Although a finely played match of spirit and
ginger (determination) between two evenly-pitted
clubs with the Wheelmen inching ahead 3-2
through the early tally, the thunder of
Taverneers strikers (batters) bewildered the
Wheelmen hurling (pitching) in an 8th inning
10-run-spectacular to win 12-3, earning the
huzzahs (cheers) from those of good fortune in
attendance.
Birthed in 2004, the 2006 season finds the
Taverneers off to their most gratifying start in
history at 4 wins-1 loss. Captivating more
hearts and minds match by match, you shouldn’t
miss your opportunity to say, "I was there when
the mighty, mighty Simsbury Taverneers team
graced the field!".
Come party like it’s 1868!
