Career: Prior to moving to Simsbury, Tom headed west after the war.  Gussy survived hunting & trapping in the mountains.  He persevered after a severely broken leg
which almost killed him and he was nurtured back to health
by his Indian friends' use of shaman remedies &
rituals.  Tom uses this knowledge today in the various
tonics & potions that he makes and sells.  If you look
closely, you may see an occasional limp resulting from his leg injury.  Nevertheless, while providing his remedies to some members of the Simsbury base ball team, the team recognized that Tom had innate athletic talents that they decided to exploit.  So Tom joined the Taverneers as both player and medicine provider.
