The Resort Overview Pirate’s Point Resort, featured in Kay Showker's guidebook 'The 100 Best Resorts of the Caribbean', on the southwest side of Little Cayman, is a 7 acre, bungalow style, boutique resort, right on the beach. It offers 10 rooms; 20 guests at a time, double occupancy. Some rooms are air-conditioned, some not. There is an air-conditioned, guest decorated bar/social room next to the air-conditioned sit-down restaurant. They have a freshwater swimming pool with attached spa. There are also hammocks under the trees for those afternoon naps or literary adventures. There is fine snorkeling, and lobster hunting in season, directly in front of the resort too. Staff The staff generally number 7 and divemasters double as resort support staff so you really get to know them intimately. (nice ratio 7/20) Gladys Howard is the owner/operator and she is a Cordon Bleu trained chef, also a native Texan, which you'll realize immediately! There are several personalities to make your visit memorable. They include Gladys, Gay, Eddie, Martha, and Chef Cam. There are other staff that change from time to time. Food The food at the resort is WAY above the cheeseburger & fries style of some pure diving resorts; actually gourmet dining with an island flair. All meals and beverages are included in your room rate, as is the diving. Yes, there are things you can request that cost extra, but they are few and far between. One year Gladys ran a casual, afternoon cooking school after lunch and diving. We were lucky, she rarely does this, although with her new demonstration kitchen in her custom designed house I expect we'll see more mini-classes from time to time. You'll find select menus from recent years on my 'Activity Notes' pages. (click on links at the lower left) |

My Activity Notes and Island updates: My Dive Logs: |
Diving with Pirate's Point The resort has a 42’ Newton custom dive boat that accommodates 22 or so. It's worthwhile noting that you never have that many divers on the boat; more like 10 to 12 generally. Very nice group on a single dive site. The resort has it's own compressor and rental dive equipment for use. They also do resort courses and finish-up referrals. They do a NITROX class too. They offer EAN32 that they obtain from another resort that has a NITROX mixing facility. They test on-site and I test my NITROX tanks the afternoon before I use each day's tanks. The most popular dive areas, Bloody Bay and Jackson’s Bay, are on the north side of the island. The dive boats are anchored on the south side of the island in a lagoon ('sound' actually) bounded by a fringing reef. Most of the resorts are on the south side, so you must ride around the island to the north side for the more popular dive sites. As PP is on the West end of the island (south side), and the best diving is on the north side, you ride down (5 minutes) to their private dock, in the south side lagoon, board and ride around to the north; about 25 minutes. |
