Our Game Room

The top floor game room in our house is dedicated to classic video games.

The centerpiece of the room is my Atari 2600 collection.  I've managed to fit it into one wall unit, custom made from oak, particle board, and 196 interlocking Musicmate cubes.  It holds 784 loose games, around 80 boxed games, 40 controllers, and 9 systems.

A close-up of some of the loose and boxed games.  I generally don't collect the boxed ones, but I do keep some of the interesting ones that I come across from time to time.

One of the systems is hooked up to my childhood Zenith TV for reliving my wasted youth.

The shelves pull out for easy access to the various 2600 systems, joysticks, and misc. controllers.  Game manuals, catalogs, Activision patches, and other paperwork are kept in binders for quick reference.

A few of the rare games in my collection, including Music Machine, Malagai, Cubicolor, Quadrun, and prototypes of Dumbo and Pepsi Invaders. Here's the full list of the games that I have.

My Mame cabinet is set up to play arcade games as well as Atari 2600 games.  Which version of Pac-Man would you rather have spent your quaters on?

I needed another bookcase for items that didn't fit in my Atari cabinet.  Here I have some rare items like Atari Video Music System, Gameline Modem, Kid Vid Player, and the original PONG, as well as several books and videos about classic gaming.  I made the picture above the bookcase to honor the technological marvel that was the 2kb Atari 2600 game chip.

I also have a dart board and the classic Star Trek chess set for any guests who might not be video game junkies, but geeks nonetheless.

On the other side of the room lies a futon, a shiatsu massage chair, a hand-carved table from the Phillipines, and lost of posters of games from days gone by.

The making of the cabinet, including a couple earlier scrapped plans....
