Overview:

Our social studies curriculum at Seitz has made necessary changes during the pass few years in order to better meet Michigan's State Standards and Benchmarks concerning the area of social studies.ÊDuring a student's three years at Seitz, he/she will be exposed to all Middle School State Standards and Benchmarks for the six combined disciplines of social studies. Seitz curriculum includes classes of economics (10 weeks), history (one full year), world geography (two full years), civics (10 weeks), public discourse and decision-making (included within all social studies classes).

Course Outline:

ÊEconomics is a ten week class offered to all 7th grade students during their second semester (3rd or 4th card marking).Ê

Grading System:

ÊAll grades are recorded as points.ÊFor example, a test may equal 128 points and a class assignment 23 points.ÊI compute a student's grade by totaling all possible points and dividing these points into the cumulative points earned by each student.ÊComputerized grading lists will be posted weekly.Ê Names will be listed using a confidential number code and arranged not in alphabetically order but by order of percent.ÊMy student's grades are also posted online at: http://people.mw.mediaone.net/tbrown6.ÊOne needs to use a special nine-digit number (using dashes between the numbers) and a four-digit pin number in order to access a student's grade.ÊWhen you access the grade online, the student's name does not appear Ð only his/her student ID number for this class.ÊI do not round off the percent.ÊThe percent system I use is:

Ê ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ98.0 Ð 100.00 = A+ÊÊ 78.0 - 79.9 = C+ ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ93.0 -ÊÊÊ 97.9Ê = AÊÊÊÊ73.0 Ð 77.9 = C ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ90.0 -ÊÊÊ 92.9Ê = A-ÊÊÊ70.0 Ð 72.9 = C- Ê ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ88.0 -ÊÊÊ 89.9Ê = B+ÊÊÊ68.0 Ð 69.9 = D+ ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ83.0 -ÊÊÊ 87.9 =Ê BÊÊÊÊ63.0 Ð 67.9 = D ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ80.0 -ÊÊÊ 82.9 =Ê B-ÊÊÊ60.0 Ð 62.9 = D

Textbook:

ÊNo textbook! Dittos, group assignments, reading from Coach Book, classroom activities will be the norm for this class.

Tests:

ÊAll tests will announced at least two days in advance.ÊOn the day prior to the test, there will be a review during the class period.ÊThis review is administered like a spelling bee.ÊThe winner or winners of the review will have his/her test grade increased by ten percent.

Homework:

ÊHomework is rarely given!ÊHomework will be given only if a student has been absent or when a student needs to study for a test.ÊCheck your son/daughters White Assignment Book on a weekly basis.ÊThis will allow you to find out what's going on in the class and how your son/daughter is doing in class.ÊHomework can be located online from my web page.
