1. Our Mission Statement
Our Children face a technical, competitive and complicated future. Education plays the most important role in preparing them for this future. Our mission within the Riverview Community School District is to successfully educate students so they will be capable of functioning in society, earning an income and becoming tomorrow's leaders and responsible adults. To achieve these goals, we must dedicate ourselves to helping students meet their full potential. We have high expectations for our students to reach their maximum potential and we are committed to accomplishing this by creating a positive school climate, insuring a safe school environment, monitoring student progress, promoting effective home-school communications and providing effective instructional leadership.

2. Seitz Information
Seitz is located in Riverview, Michigan, a downriver suburb of Detroit. The district consists of one high school (Riverview High School), one middle school (Seitz Middle School), and three elementary schools (Forrest, Huntington, and Memorial). We are a "School of Choice" school district. Participation in such allows students from other school districts the option to transfer to our excellent facilities. I believe that our middle school's curriculum is second to none in our state. We have an eight period day which allows our students the opportunity to take a maximum of eight exploratory classes per year in addition to their four primary core classes (English, Math, Science and Social Studies). Students also have the choice to take a full year of computers each year at Seitz. Besides improving keyboarding skills, students are taught Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access. They also learn the Internet languages of HTML and Java Script so they may be able to construct their own Web pages. In addition, Seitz offers a semester class which explores sixteen different technological training areas, including laser and TV communication. Our school offers the students great exposure to computer technology, with a total of three full size computer labs at their disposal. Most importantly, our entire school district, including our elementary schools, our high school, and Seitz Middle school is connected to the Internet.

3. MEAP Results
Riverview's top priority during the 1999-2000 school year was to adjust our curriculum and instruction so that we were completely aligned with the Michigan Department of Education Goals and Objectives for the core curricular classes. The outcomes of our compliance with the goals and objectives are tested by the state by the MEAP (Michigan Educational Assessment Program). As you might have read in the June edition of the newspaper, we have continued to make significant gains in our standardized MEAP testing at Seitz Middle School. These gains during the last two years has placed Seitz near the top of the best middle schools in all of Wayne County
Included in our scores were a 14.4% gain in mathematics, 9.6% gain in writing, 10.4% gain in reading and a 25.6% gain in science, and a 3.5% gain in social studies - Last year Seitz finished 5th in the entire state in social studies with the highest percent of category 1's in the state! Due to the hard work of our staff and students, we were able to make such significant increases in all areas! In fact, the Detroit News reported that Riverview Community Schools had the highest scores in science and social studies in all of Wayne County

4. Student Assignment Books (White Book)
All Seitz students have been issued a Student Assignment Book (a.k.a. the "White Book"). Students are expected to log all assignments, exams, projects, grades, etc. in the book. Furthermore, it is expected that they will share the information from the White Book with you, the parents, on a regular basis. In addition, the White Book contains pertinent Seitz information, Hall Passes, and the Code of Conduct. Please regularly review the contents of the White Book with your son/daughter.
Students are expected to carry their White Book with them at all times. In the event of a lost or stolen White Book, replacements must be purchased at the main office for $5.00.
