Mr. Brown's Home Page Homework My Classes Online Grades Rules

COURSE OUTLINE:

This full-year class is designed so students may continue improving their abilities with using a computer. The majority of their work will be accomplished by using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, & Power Point). In addition, students will learn how to use the Internet as an educational tool and how to build their own web page.

COMPUTER LAB RULES:

Each student receives a complete listing of the schoolÕs computer lab rules. The schoolÕs code of conduct is enforced.

TESTS:

This is a performance class based upon students working and improving their computer skills. Grades will be based upon their total effort and most importantly completing each lab assignment. Homework will not be assigned unless a student is absent for a substantial period of time.

COMPUTERIZED PROGRESS REPORTS:

In the middle and the end of each card-marking, all students will be given a computerized progress report to be taken home and signed by their parents and then returned to me. This computerized report card will show the exact percentage and grade that you child is earning. It will also list every assignment your child has taken and the points he or she has earned for each. In addition, it will also show if there are any missing assignments.

GRADING SYSTEM:

I have created a special place on my web page so that parents and students may go online and check on oneÕs grades. The online grading system will be posted using a highly secured nine-digit student number as well as a four-digit pin number. Names of each student will never be listed Ð only a studentÕs special unique number. In my class all grades are recorded as points. For example, a test may equal 228 points and a homework assignments 31 points. I compute a student's grade by totaling all possible points and dividing these points into the cumulative points earned by each student. A simple and fair percent system is then used to compute the student's point total to a letter grade. Computerized grading lists will be posted weekly in the class and online. Names will be listed using a confidential number code. The percent system I use is: Ê ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ98.0 Ð 100.00 = A+ÊÊ 78.0 - 79.9 = C+ ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ93.0 -ÊÊÊ 97.9Ê = AÊÊÊÊ73.0 Ð 77.9 = C ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ90.0 -ÊÊÊ 92.9Ê = A-ÊÊÊ70.0 Ð 72.9 = C- Ê ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ88.0 -ÊÊÊ 89.9Ê = B+ÊÊÊ68.0 Ð 69.9 = D+ ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ83.0 -ÊÊÊ 87.9 =Ê BÊÊÊÊ63.0 Ð 67.9 = D ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ80.0 -ÊÊÊ 82.9 =Ê B-ÊÊÊ60.0 Ð 62.9 = D

ONLINE GRADES:

Student grades will be posted weekly on my web page - Mr. BrownÕs Cyber School: http://people.mw.mediaone.net/tbrown6. All grades will be posted using a secret and secured nine-digit number plus a four -digit login code.

CITIZENSHIP:

The following three areas will be used in determining citizenship. 1. Be prompt in completing all assignments. 2. Follow all classroom and school citizenship policies. 3. Use the computers following the schoolÕs computer policy.

PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITY:

Please be sure to sign your childÕs assignment book once each week plus sign your child's computerized progress report after the 5th and 10th weeks for each card-marking.
