We are the first tchoukball club in the United States, and we’re dedicated to playing and spreading the word about this great sport. Tchoukball (pronounced “CHUKE-ball”) is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport invented in Switzerland in the 1960s. Youth tchoukball is spreading through physical education programs around the United States, but ours is the first club in the country with an adult membership.
Yes you do. Tchoukball is specifically designed to be a “sport for all.” If you can throw, catch, and run, you are tchoukball material. Lifelong athletes and newcomers, men and women, people of all ages and skill levels can work together on the court, becoming an effective team. Each of us makes it a point to work with inexperienced players, so come along and try it out for yourself. Bring a cheering section if you like, but spectators will be encouraged repeatedly to join in. (Our level of play is geared toward players of high school age and over. Please contact us or check out our links page for youth resources.)
There are no "dues" or "registration fees". You can come and try tchoukball at no cost. Those of us who are regular participants chip in to split the cost of the gym rental and equipment.
Most of our Friday night sessions conclude with pizza and beer at Ledo Pizza (River Road, Bethesda). Of course, this is merely a tradition, not an official part of the tchoukball rule book.
