Point to and ask what the letter is: Review of the letters A-Z. Play Around the World to practice letter sounds. Cheering with Open Court sound cue cards. Play Zoo Phonics Bingo.
Ask what sounds the letters make: Emphasis on the sound of “m.” Children should think of words that begin with "m". We are beginning to blend sounds.

Words to practice using around the house: Granddaddy, protect, scary, sharing, crate, sneaked
We are learning about characters in the books that we read. We are discussing similarities and differences between the characters. We are learning to classify and categorize how certain things are alike in the story. Talk about the sequence (first, next, last) of the story in the books that you read to your child. Predict what could happen in the book before you read to your child it by looking at the cover. We are learning to retell a story by looking at the pictures.
We are learning about nouns.
We will continue to practice on our letters. Practice making the strokes going down.
We are learning that rhyming words are words that sound the same except at the beginning. We are listening for the beginning sounds in words. We are looking at the number of syllables in a word.
We are learning that sentences begin with a capital letter and end with a period. We are learning to dictate sentences. The children are completing sentences. We are writing our names the “Kindergarten” way. ( large letter and then small letters for the rest) We are labeling our work in our daily journal. We are using nouns for people in captions. We are beginning to revise and edit by checking our work.
We are listening for rhyme and rhythm. We are learning to expand our vocabulary. We are learning to leave messages. We are learning about announcements.
We are learning to be good friends. We are learning are learning about community helpers. We learn about how people in the community cooperate. We are learning about family traditions and customs.
